Bruins vs. Maple Leafs: David Krejci Helps Boston Finish Near-Perfect November

Nicholas GossNov 30, 2011

Boston Bruins center David Krejci scored a goal and added two big assists to help the defending champs defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 Wednesday night and take over first place in the Northeast Division.

The Bruins have taken at least a point in 13 straight games, and the win against Toronto capped a fantastic November for Boston after a terrible first few weeks of the season.

The Bruins went through November without a loss in regulation, the first time the club has done that since January of 1969, when Bobby Orr was leading the team.

Krejci's performance Wednesday was great to see for Bruins fans. After being the 2011 NHL Playoffs leader in goals and points, many expected Krejci to carry his strong postseason play into this year.

When you consider that Krejci is in a contract year, you really would have expected him to become a point-per-game player this season.

Coming into Wednesday's game against Toronto, Krejci has just 10 points and was a minus-four. With a great game versus the Maple Leafs, Krejci can now relax and focus on being the top-line center the Bruins have trusted him to be.

When Boston's top line of Krejci, Nathan Horton and Milan Lucic dominate the other team's first line like they did against the Maple Leafs Wednesday, the Bruins are very tough to beat.

The Bruins are second in the NHL in goals scored per game, and that is with Krejci struggling. If Boston can find a way to get Krejci going in December, their offense could be quite scary.

We know the Bruins have elite goaltending and great defensive depth, but if the offense steps up like they have been so far, Boston could have a better team right now than last year's Stanley Cup-winning squad.

The Bruins open up December against the Maple Leafs in Boston on Saturday, and their next game after that is against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
