Week 13 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Chris Johnson and Stars Who Are Must-Starts Again

Donald WoodNov 30, 2011

This is it, folks! The last week of regular season fantasy football is upon us and it’s time to make sure you finish the season strong.

While players like Chris Johnson and LeGarrette Blount were terrible starts earlier in the season, they have blossomed back into the starting running backs you drafted high earlier this year.

The following list is of the stars of last season that will show they have what it takes to make a huge impact this week.

Chris Johnson

The Tennessee Titans have been searching for an answer to Chris Johnson’s lack of production, but it was just a matter of time before he got his legs back and started to run like CJ2K.

With the fantasy playoffs on the line, it will take the perfect matchup to get Chris Johnson the points you need. That’s where the Buffalo Bills come in.

The Bills are 23rd in the NFL against the rush, allowing over 120 yards per game. Look for a lights out day from Johnson.

LeGarrette Blount

The Carolina Panthers defense has trouble tackling ball carrier at times. Their worst nightmare is a running back like LeGarrette Blount. He eats arm tackles for breakfast.

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting to figure things out on offense, gaps are starting to open up for the bruising running back. All Blount needs is just a sliver of light and the Panthers are in trouble.

Tampa Bay’s defense will give rookie quarterback Cam Newton trouble, which should keep the score close enough for Blount to get a healthy dosage of the carries. Expect at least 15 fantasy points from the back.

The San Diego Chargers are in a bad spot right now, but Philip Rivers is too good to pack it in and give up on the season. He still has tight end Antonio Gates, after all.

With Gates missing time and playing at less than 100 percent for most of the season, he is back healthy and being a fantasy deal breaker week after week.

Gates’ chance to showcase just how good he can be will come against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday Night Football. I expect six catches for 75 yards and a touchdown from the veteran.
