NBA Rumors: Rajon Rondo Rumors Proves C's Know He'll Be Exposed Without Big 3
The Celtics see that building around a point guard that can't shoot, is not a smart decision. For everything Rondo does well, and believe me, that is plenty, he has a noticeable Achilles heel. Generally speaking, a point guard does not have to be the best shooter, but he should at least be capable of keeping teams honest.
The only way that a point guard like that can lead a team to success, is for him to be surrounded with two or more extremely gifted scorers. Such has been the case for Rondo in Boston with the Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
The four have been the nucleus of a very strong team for the past four years, but now, the three main cogs' time is coming to a close. Both Garnett and Allen are free agents at the end of the season, and Pierce is 33 years old and clearly on the downswing of a hall of fame career.
That leaves Rondo, the consummate playmaker and defensive gambler, with the broken jumper. If you were to remove Rondo from association with the Boston Three Party, would he still look like a top-flight point guard with his scoring deficiencies? I think not.
Rumors have swirled involving everyone from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Indiana Pacers The Celtics haven't had any known takers up to this point, but what looked like the beginning of a Celtics era built around Rondo, is now uncertain.
Danny Ainge must realize something I've known for three years, Rondo is a nice piece, but he isn't a cornerstone. Now they must find a suitor, where Rondo's bricks fit into the foundation.
