NBA Trade Rumors: Nets Ready to Make Best Offer Magic Will Get for Dwight Howard
The New Jersey Nets have already prepared the best deal possible for the Orlando Magic’s superstar center, Dwight Howard.
Seriously, the Magic will not find a better deal for Dwight, so they might as well just accept this offer the second it is made.
The tentative trade right now is two future first-round picks and promising young big man Brook Lopez for Howard and the ridiculously overpaid Hedo Turkoglu, as reported by Chad Ford and Marc Stein
That is one heck of a proposal if you ask me, and one that Orlando would be crazy not to take, especially considering they will lose Howard for nothing at the end of the season.
Lopez isn’t a force like Howard in the paint, but he is a solid substitute and definitely worthy of being a player to build around in Orlando for years to come.
He has career averages of 17.4 PPG, 7.6 REBs and 1.7 BLKs, he also shoots over 50 percent from the floor and above 80 percent from the line.
Howard’s numbers are pretty similar; for his career he averages 18.2 PPG, 12.9 REBs and 2.2 BLKS, shooting nearly 58 percent from the field, but less than 60 percent from the line.
It’s clear that Howard is better on the boards and defensively, but Lopez is only in his fourth year in the league and still has time to develop into a legitimate All-Star. They could also bring in a defensive-oriented power forward to pair up with him.
Absorbing Turkoglu’s remaining three years and $35 million is also very crucial for the Nets. That contract is disgusting, but to pair Howard up with Deron Williams, they are going to have to bite the bullet.
This means they get to amnesty-cut Travis Outlaw and his crazy deal to get encumbered by another one.
New Jersey is going all-in on getting a competitive team ready for their move to Brooklyn. They realize that they are taking a gamble and could lose Deron Williams and Dwight Howard (if they get him) after the 2011-2012 season.
I'm thinking that it's a move that will pan out once those two play together for a few games and see the light.
Now all that is left for the Nets to do is wait for Orlando to accept their proposal.
They've made a Godfather offer and the Magic cannot refuse it.
