DeMar DeRozan: Why He Is Poised for a Great Season

DeMar DeRozan is one of the shining stars of the NBA. In his sophomore season, DeRozan nearly doubled his scoring average and improved in every aspect of his game. Most importantly, his leadership and the role on the team improved vastly. Coming into this upcoming season, DeRozan has a lot expected from him, and based on his work ethic, he is definitely ready to be the future of the Toronto Raptors.

Most people just know DeRozan for his dunking ability, and you cannot blame them. For someone who plays on a team not usually recognised by the NBA and was in two straight slam dunk contests, it would be obvious people only know him for his dunks. The fans of the Raptors think otherwise.

The fans of the Raptors know DeRozan as a hard worker and one of the best slashers in the league when it comes to getting to the basket with ease and drawing fouls. When he drives in, he knows how to position his body to draw a foul and occasionally get the two points and the foul. He increased his free-throw percentage to .814 percent, and there is no doubt that he will improve for the next few years

Now to the reasons as to why DeRozan will actually be a much better player this year than last. During the first half of last season, DeRozan was playing just a little bit better than his rookie season, but once he scored 37 points against the Rockets, something sparked in DeRozan and people saw what he was actually made of.

DeRozan is known as a player with a great work ethic, meaning he is always trying to improve, whether it be his overall game, or his dunking. As we saw with many other NBA players, DeRozan was one of the players who would team up with current players and play against each other, whether it be for a charity event or for fun.

This extra basketball has most definitely helped DeRozan get better as he was still able to play while many other players were waiting around for the lockout to end. DeRozan has improved his jumper, and while the three-point shooting is still a little streaky, the rest of his game is much improved and he will be shocking some people around the NBA.

With a bigger role on the Raptors and looking at the second half of last season, DeRozan definitely has the capability to become a top-five shooting guard in this league within a few years, and with his work ethic, it will be a feat that is easy to achieve.
