NBA Rumors: Sending Dwight Howard to the Clippers Makes Perfect Sense for Magic
Somebody got into the heads of those crazy Clippers that they could pry Dwight Howard away from the Orlando Magic. They can, but I don't think they will necessarily want to pull the trigger on that deal.
ESPN's Chris Broussard reported that the Los Angeles Clippers are hot to trot for two of the biggest names in the NBA right now.
The perennial second fiddle to the Lakers has their eyes on Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, although Howard is their key target at the moment.
The Clip Show is willing to part with just about anyone except Blake Griffin to get their hands on Howard. That should make Clippers fans giddy with that type of power in the front court. Well, stop that excitement, because it's making us all look dumb.
I have to side wholeheartedly with CBS Sports' Royce Young. The Clippers would be giving up far too much to get Howard. Young contends it would take no less than:
"So (Eric) Gordon, plus DeAndre Jordan (a blossoming defensive big man), a first-round pick and someone for cap relief like Chris Kaman (who has a $12.7 million expiring deal) or Mo Williams.
"
I understand that dunks are the easiest two points in the game, but you have to be able to spread the floor and guard the wings. Who the hell is going to do that with all the talent on the floor resting with Howard and Griffin?
I wouldn't be so fearful for the Clippers if I didn't think this deal could be had. The Magic should look very closely at the Clippers offer, it is as good as any they are going to see in the next few months.
You get a very real sense that Howard is itching to leave Orlando. We have beaten this point home so many times it is near nauseating to relive it, but the Magic should get something for the best center in the game.
This rumored deal should make the Magic giddy, but it's the Clippers that are foolishly optimistic about Howard in LaLa Land.
