NFL Power Rankings: Where Did ESPN Experts Get It Right or Wrong?

Zach KruseNov 29, 2011

ESPN.com and its panel of experts have released their Week 13 NFL Power Rankings, so let's dive into their list to see where the experts got it wrong or right.

1-10

1. Green Bay Packers (11-0)

2. Baltimore Ravens (8-3)

3. San Francisco 49ers (9-2)

4. New Orleans Saints (8-3)

5. Pittsburgh Steelers (8-3)

6. New England Patriots (8-3)

7. Houston Texans (8-3)

8. Dallas Cowboys (7-4)

9. Atlanta Falcons (7-4)

10. Oakland Raiders (7-4)

Comments

For the first time since I started examining ESPN.com's rankings, I can't argue that I'd change anything about their top 10. The Ravens clearly had to jump the 49ers after beating them head-to-head, and Saints, despite their impressive win on Monday night, had to fall to make room...The Falcons and Raiders respective jumps into the top 10 are warranted, too.

11-20

11. Detroit Lions (7-4)

12. Chicago Bears (7-4)

13. Cincinnati Bengals (7-4)

14. New York Giants (6-5)

15. New York Jets (6-5)

16. Denver Broncos (6-5)

17. Tennessee Titans (6-5)

18. Philadelphia Eagles (4-7)

19. Buffalo Bills (5-6)

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-7)

Comments

The exact same issues I had last week show up again in Week 13. How in the world can you justify having the Jets over the Broncos? Regardless of what you think about Tim Tebow and the Broncos offense, you can't deny Denver's head-to-head win over New York just two weeks ago...Same goes for the Bills and Eagles. Despite Buffalo beating the Eagles back in October, and also having one more win, Philadelphia sits one spot above it. Lunacy if you ask me.

21-32

21. Kansas City Chiefs (4-7)

22. San Diego Chargers (4-7)

23. Washington Redskins (4-7)

24. Seattle Seahawks (4-7)

25. Arizona Cardinals (4-7)

26. Miami Dolphins (3-8)

27. Cleveland Browns (4-7)

28. Carolina Panthers (3-8)

29. Jacksonville Jaguars (3-8)

30. Minnesota Vikings (2-9)

31. St. Louis Rams (2-9)

32. Indianapolis Colts (0-11)

Comments

The bottom third of ESPN's rankings look spot on. The 4-7 teams all looked pretty similar, but it's obvious that both the Chiefs and Chargers have more potential to climb the rankings than the Redskins, Seahawks and Cardinals. Simple head-to-head wins helped make that decision, too...Don't mind the Dolphins being at No. 26. They are playing much better than their record indicates, and I don't think that's going to be a hard team to get back into contention next season...Will the Colts win a game this season to make the argument for No. 32 somewhat interesting?
