Bill Cowher and Top Options for Jaguars Post-Jack Del Rio

Tim KeeneyNov 29, 2011

Here's a quick look at three coaches who could be next in line for the head coaching spot in Jacksonville now that Jack Del Rio has been fired.

Bill Cowher

Cowher hasn't coached since stepping down from the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 2006 season, but there's no doubt he would be a good pickup for the Jags.

As a head coach, Cowher has put together an amazing win percentage of .623. He won the Super Bowl in 2005, was the Coach of the Year in 1992 and 2004 and just simply knows how to win.

Whenever a head coaching job opens up, Cowher is right in the middle of most rumors, so you have to take this with a grain of salt. But simply put, he's a good coach and would help Jacksonville win games.

Also, Jacksonville isn't the most desired place. With some of the places Cowher has turned down, it's unlikely he accepts this job.

Rob Ryan

The bigger and quite possibly louder brother of Rex Ryan is getting tons of acclaim for his defensive success in Dallas

Rex is succeeding as a head coach in New York, and the next logical step would be for Rob to get a head-coaching job.

Don't forget how much Jacksonville struggles in selling tickets, too. Ryan might just be one of the only guys who can increase sales.

The Jaguars might want an offensive guy instead of Ryan, but they just made their defensive coordinator interim head coach, so that might not be true.

Mel Tucker

Speaking of the interim, don't forget about Mel Tucker. He has five games remaining on the schedule, and four of those are easily winnable games (San Diego, Tampa Bay, at Tennessee and Indianapolis).

If he does a good job to finish out this season, I wouldn't be all that surprised to see Jacksonville give him a shot and make it official.

Tucker has made Jacksonville's defense one of the best in the NFL, which is an extremely impressive feat considering how bad the offense has been.

The Jags might have a tough time getting a big name to come to Jacksonville, so fixing the problem internally might be the best solution.
