NBA Rumors: Best Options for Blazers SG Brandon Roy

Adam WellsNov 29, 2011

With the new NBA Labor Deal in place (or at least close to being), there are going to be a lot of teams making some drastic changes with the new amnesty clause. One of those teams is the Portland Trail Blazers, who appear ready to sever ties with Brandon Roy after an injury-plagued season in 2010 that limited him to just 23 starts.

According to John Canzano of The Oregonian, Roy’s $15 million price tag is going to play a large part in the move, leaving him free to sign with whomever he likes.

This would create quite a frenzy because of the fact that there are very few difference makers on the free agent market right now, and Roy is still one of the most talented players in the league when he is healthy.

So which teams should make a serious play for Roy if he does, in fact, become a free agent?

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls surprised everyone last season by winning 62 games and being the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Derrick Rose established himself as the best point guard in the league and won the MVP award for his efforts.

However, one thing they were missing was a scorer who could take pressure off Rose and allow him to use his strengths as a passer to set up the offense.

Roy would solve all of those problems, thanks to his ability to score from anywhere on the court. Signing him would allow them to be able to compete with the Miami Heat in the East.

Golden State Warriors

The Warriors are not far from playoff contention with a 36-46 record in 2010, but they obviously have some work to do.

This team is built on offense and that is not going to change anytime soon, so the only thing that they can do is add a little bit more and hope to catch lightning in a bottle.

Roy doesn’t have the knees to be a featured player for a team anymore, but that does not mean he can’t be a significant role player somewhere. He will help make the Warriors fun and exciting to watch again.

Orlando Magic

The Magic would have to do a lot of re-shuffling to get under the salary cap in order to take a run at Roy, but this team has to do anything and everything it can to make sure it's in contention for a championship if it wants to re-sign Dwight Howard.

Roy is a better No. 2 option for this team than anyone else currently on the roster. He will give the Magic the outside presence they need to counter Howard’s presence in the paint.

This team needs offense and a lot of it, so why not find a way to make Roy come to Disney Land.
