Jack Del Rio Fired: Twitter Reacts to Jaguars Coaching Dismissal

Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio has officially been fired, according to ESPN, and as expected, his dismissal has sparked a social media firestorm.

Twitter is buzzing about the Jags axing their tenured coach and though many in the sports world are speaking out, not everyone is excited about the dismissal.

After a 3-8 start, the Jags certainly have grounds to fire the second coach in the history of their franchise.

Update: Tuesday, November 29th at 9:55 p.m. EST

CBS' Pete Prisco reports that Del Rio "lost his drive to coach", according to sources. If the rumors about sleeping in and indifference hold true, the Jaguars had no choice but to fire him and teams thinking about hiring him will have to investigate the validity of these claims.

Our very own Matt Miller was surprised that no head coaches had been fired. This Tweet comes from November 27th and with Del Rio's dismissal, it seems highly likely that one or both of these head coaches will share his fate in the very near future.

CBS' Mike Freeman says Del Rio is still owed $5 million. That's serious severance pay that highlights just how much the Jaguars wanted to move in a different direction.

The Big Lead's Jason McIntyre is amongst those wondering if Del Rio is headed off to the college ranks. While coordinator jobs will surely be available to him and an NFL head-coaching job isn't out of the question, there are marquee Pac-12 jobs that have to be catching his eye.

PR1 Communication's Risa Balayem points out that everyone thought Tony Sparano would be the first coach who was fired this season. It appears it wasn't Sparano's seat who was hottest after all.

Our very own Michael Schottey reports that Herdy Gerdy will be taking the reigns in Jacksonville. One has to wonder, would Herdy Gerdy put forth a worse record with Maurice Jones-Drew in the backfield?

Mel Tucker has been appointed interim head coach of the Jags, according to Pro Football Talk. Tucker was the defensive coordinator for Jacksonville. Will Tucker prove he's capable of leading this team from the ashes, as Leslie Frazier did with the Vikings and Jason Garrett did with the Cowboys last season?

Buffalo Bills' linebacker Kirk Morrison shows his respect for his previous coach. Del Rio may not have won the way Jacksonville wanted him to, but having his previous players speak so highly of him is a testament to what kind of coach he is.

Chris Sprow of ESPN mentions the head coaching vacancy at UCLA as a possible landing place for Del Rio. A former Trojan, Del Rio may be enticed by the possibility of going back to LA. ASU will undoubtedly be a possible destination if Del Rio is willing to drop down to the college ranks.
