WWE: Will John Cena Always Be in The Rock's Shadow?

Giulio RomanoNov 29, 2011

Will Raw be WAR again soon?

We had the live Piper's Pit segment last night featuring John Cena; and if memory serves me correctly, was that some sort of attempt on the Hall of Famer's part to try and turn the big guy to the dark side?

When The Rock returned to action in New York, the crowd was electrified and it seemed he had not lost an ounce of his magic. That was very impressive, and I personally loved every second of his presence on the show. He carries with him the stuff of legends, the "it" factor that separates the Icons from the Superstars.

John Cena carries that magic as well. He is a one of a kind character that has already amassed all the accolades necessary to qualify for the Hall of Fame. Yet, there is a huge difference between the two. Why is it that The Rock, who left years ago, returns and steals all of Cena's thunder with but a thought?

The Great One cast an immense shadow upon Superman, one that cannot be escaped. Not right now anyway.

The reason for that is: The Rock is a more complete character. One that no longer has anything to prove in WWE whatsoever and just does what he does because he loves it and because he simply can. He has gone full circle and the entire world loves and knows him.

John Cena does not have that privilege yet. Two things remain.

Whether it is turning heel or just going through a serious and aptly named, "Attitude Adjustment," you and I can only debate on; but there is no denying something needs to change. We all want it to happen except maybe the little children all over the world.

WrestleMania 28 is set to be one of the greatest ever this coming April, and it is mostly because of the match between The Rock and John Cena, which was hyped a year ago. With his return at Survivor Series last week, it was clear how much the People's Champion still loved to perform and he was in phenomenal shape.

I strongly believe it is in everyone's best interest to change John Cena for a few years and allow him to become a true legend. He will always be second best if he doesn't do this. I'm not saying it should be a total switch right away like Hulk Hogan did for example but gradual.

Once he goes down that path, new options will open up to him. He could play around with them and rally a whole bunch of people behind him and then later when the time comes again, he will pull off the ultimate act of bravery and save a top babyface from danger and instantly win the respect and admiration of millions.

He will have come full circle as The Rock did. The face then heel then face again routine worked for everyone. Shawn Michaels did it, Bret Hart did it and look at them now. They have become full characters in their own rights, legends of worldwide renown.

This way, John Cena will not only win the love of fans who hated his character for years but will have finally made it to the level of legendary character.

I want to see him get there. He most definitely deserves it.

Come on, John! Do what must be done to break out of that shadow. Tap into that energy and find the means to destroy The Rock at WrestleMania.

Is it me or does Captain Cenation remind me of Anakin or Luke Skywalker? Hmm...
