Urban Meyer to Ohio State: Why Braxton Miller Will Be the Next Tim Tebow

With Urban Meyer now the head coach at The Ohio State University, the first person that people look to at benefiting the most is their quarterback Braxton Miller.  

Miller struggled this year under the current Ohio State offense. His passing numbers were awful, with 11 touchdown passes while failing to throw for under 1,000 yards.  

Miller was placed as the starter after the Miami (FL) game. If Miller would have had a chance to start those three games, he could have at least had over 1,000 yards passing this year. However, his touchdowns and interceptions wouldn’t have seen any spikes in their overall total. 

Braxton will never be the elite passing quarterback like USC’s Matt Barkley, Stanford’s Andrew Luck or Houston’s Case Keenum. What Braxton can and will be is that dual-threat quarterback that excels in the style of offense that Meyer can bring in. 

While at Florida, Meyer had a quarterback like Miller in Tim Tebow. Tebow was never the best passer. However, what Tebow could do like Braxton is kill opposing defenses with his rushing ability.  

Being a sophomore is a blessing for Miller and for Meyer. It gives the quarterback time to grow into Meyer’s spread offense while giving Meyer a quarterback that isn’t stuck in a system. Meyer comes into this situation with Miller like a painter to a blank canvas. He will have the ability to fix and make Miller into a dangerous quarterback that can win games by himself.  

Miller will not be as successful as Tebow was in overall wins and losses. And Miller will not have the three BCS Bowl Games and two BCS National Championships. However, what Miller will have, like Tebow, is a coach in Meyer who is getting the most out of his abilities.  

Ohio State fans should not give up on their freshman quarterback who led this offense to the 116th in the NCAA passing offense. This was an awful year for a quarterback who was not ready to take over this team. 

With a full offseason with Meyer teaching him how to run his offense, Miller will come back as one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten.  

He will not lead the Buckeyes to a Big Ten Title next year, but he will in his junior and senior year, all because of his new head coach.
