Who Will WWE Fire Next?

JDec 22, 2008

It’s been roughly 11 days since Gene Snitsky was released from his contract as part of the effort by WWE to save money by releasing infrequently used talent, or those who can afford to be released.

The amount of people who have been released recently is high, and WWE officials have made it clear that they may be more to follow. This left me thinking who could be next, or whether the rosters have been cut back enough?

Personally, I don’t think there is a lot of room left to cut people from Raw, with a couple of exceptions, but there are a few more could go from Smackdown.

Here is a quick list of people I think are in danger of getting the boot.

Hardcore Holly – Has been out of action since he was turned on by Cody Rhodes, and supposedly has been in rehab recovering from a painkiller addiction. I haven’t heard anyone talk about him for a little while, but in all honesty the guy is 45, is there really a place left in the WWE for him?

Especially to wrestle on the flagship show. He might be able to wangle his way into a coaching job or something else backstage, but personally, I can’t see where his wrestling career can go.

D-Lo Brown – Made a return a little while back and looked like he could receive a little push. I can’t remember when his last televised match was, but we haven’t seen him for a while. Maybe the creative team has something planned, but it seems to me another case of the WWE trying unsuccessfully to relight old flames.

Tiffany – She might be easy on the eyes but she has not shown any hint of actually wrestling any time soon. The Divas of WWE have shown that if you want to survive, you’ve got to wrestle. Lena Yeda was recently axed, possibly for that reason, but being a pretty face in the current situation just isn’t enough. Unless maybe you pay “special” visits to Vince. I’m not sayin’ she would, but I’m just sayin’.

Ryan Braddock – Debuted in August on Smackdown and hasn’t been seen too much since. He lost against the likes of Ricky Ortiz and The Big Show in the few matches he had, but has been inactive for a little while, and I haven’t heard anything regarding his return.

I’m all for getting in new talent and allowing new stars to build themselves a career, but if he doesn’t find his way back in soon there way not be a way back in at all.

Scotty Goldman – Goldman made his debut in the 10-man battle royal to decide who would take the last place in Smackdown’s Championship Scramble. He has not wrestled since September and appears to be in the same boat as Ryan Braddock.

Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder – Some might disagree with my thoughts that their position in the WWE is under threat, but after losing touch with Edge, they have not been too impressive.

Ok, maybe they won the Tag Titles, but they weren’t the best champions, losing their titles on the first attempt at defending it. I don’t know whether the WWE wants to trim the already lacking tag team division but they aren’t the best wrestlers, and their places might be filled easier than you would think. I would assume they will be safe for a while to be honest but you never know.

Bam Neeley – The bodyguard of Chavo Guerrero has been inactive since October, and with the deformation of La Familia, I don’t know what his role in the WWE will be. He never made an impact as a singles wrestler, and ECW has been coping without him.

I didn’t see the need for his gimmick, apart from to boost the numbers in La Familia, but whether he will find a place on his possible return is questionable.

You might say that some of my choices are controversial, and that I might have picked on a lot of inactive wrestlers, but things are tight at the moment. It's hard to find your way back into an already busy roster, and with a few new faces due to appear, a return may be difficult.

However you look at it, there will always be jobs under threat in the wrestling business, and it is usually the lesser names that fall victim to hard times. What are your opinions on who should be released from the WWE?
