NBA Rumors: Miami Heat and More Potential Landing Spots for Samuel Dalembert

Tim DanielsNov 28, 2011

Nene and Tyson Chandler are the prized centers on the unrestricted free-agent market. For teams without sufficient cap room to reel in one of those big fish, veteran Samuel Dalembert is a more realistic option. Here are three teams that would be good fits based on his interview with FOX Sports Florida.

Miami Heat

Miami lacked depth behind the Big Three last season, which led to head coach Erik Spoelstra using a lot of smaller lineups or relying on Joel Anthony at center. That's obviously not an ideal plan of attack if the Dream Team hopes to attain global basketball domination.

Dalembert would provide solid interior defense to offset inconsistent contributions from Chris Bosh, and he can hold up his end of the bargain on offense as well. He'll thrive in a situation where he's basically the fifth or sixth option, effectively eliminating any pressure.

New York Knicks

Like the Heat, New York is trying to build a dynasty around superstars. Amar'e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony are in place with a point guard, possibly Chris Paul, next on the team's to-do list. But they could still use some defensive help.

Dalembert has averaged nearly two blocks per game for virtually his entire career and regular matches up with the opposing team's best big man. Adding him to the mix would give the Knicks one of the NBA's best frontcourts.

Houston Rockets

Houston will be without Yao Ming, who decided to call it a career rather than attempt another injury comeback. That opens up a big hole, both literally and figuratively, in the middle of the Rockets' starting lineup.

Luis Scola is one of the league's most underrated big men, but he should exclusively be playing power forward. The Rockets have several young players with a lot of potential, and Dalembert could serve as a mentor and locker room leader, which would be well worth his asking price.
