10 NFL Teams That Have Already Given Up on 2011 Season
There are five games remaining in the 2011 NFL season some teams have already given up.
At the rate they are going, they aren't going to make the playoffs. They aren't going to create any upsets. Their season is already spinning down the drain.
The Colts have yet to win a game. Some teams have started the season strong, only to come sprawling back down on the ground.
Here are the 10 teams that have already given up on the 2011 season.
San Diego Chargers
1 of 10The Chargers started out the season 4-1, defeating two of their division rivals.
After their bye week, the Chargers have been on a six-game losing streak.
They can blame it on Philip Rivers, especially in the game against Kansas City for fumbling the ball on the snap instead of the team going for a field goal. It was all they needed to win the game. They can put blame on whoever.
One thing is for certain: the season is over for the Chargers. After a loss in overtime against the Broncos, San Diego looked like a team who has given up when they walked off the field.
They might win a game or two as they progress toward the end. But don't count on Rivers and the Chargers to be charging back.
Minnesota Vikings
2 of 10There is one thing we've learned about the Minnesota Vikings this season: They can't rally back and they can't hold a solid lead.
There has been four games where the Vikings were winning at halftime—two where their opponents have yet to score—and they went on to lose those games. There have been a few where the Vikings tried to rally back in the second half, only to fail.
In the last game versus Atlanta, a costly 4th-and-goal diminished the Vikings chance to rally back.
The Vikings can't hold the field. They can't rally for a win. They've already surrendered their 2011 season.
St. Louis Rams
3 of 10The St. Louis Rams have been quiet this season. There are no exciting talks about Sam Bradford. There are no talks about how the Rams are going to turn things around.
Here's the thing: they aren't.
There isn't really much to say about them, except that one time when they beat New Orleans. Does anyone remember that?
They've been blown out by most of their opponents this year. Sam Bradford has been up and down all season.
They have one of the worst offenses and one of the worst defenses—excluding their passing defense which is eighth in the NFL. They are playing in a division where San Francisco is close to clinching with five games left.
Give up Rams. Season's over for you.
Carolina Panthers
4 of 10Congrats to the Panthers who received their first road victory since 2009.
Then again, it was against the winless Colts, but a win is a win nevertheless.
This season, the Panthers have spent a lot of time coming close to smelling the sweet smell of victory only to have it collapse within their reach.
They almost beat the Detroit Lions, but allowed them to rally back. Looking at the rest of the season, victory may be close in some of these remaining games, but Cam Newton and the Panthers just aren't going to pull it off.
They can't grip onto victory. They're not going to grip onto this season.
Washington Redskins
5 of 10The Washington Redskins won three out of their first four games of the season before their bye week. They've only won one game since then. They got shut-out by Buffalo and creamed by Carolina and Miami.
Kudos to the Redskins for rallying against the Seattle Seahawks in their last game.
But they still struggled, much like they've been doing a majority of this season. They will continue to struggle in the remaining games.
All is given up by the Redskins.
Philadelphia Eagles
6 of 10If there was one team who truly had a roller coaster ride this season, it has to be the Philadelphia Eagles.
Though it was hard to predict how their season was going to go earlier, it's not hard now to see the end of their road.
Michael Vick has been struggling all season and was sidelined recently with an injury. They face a few mediocre teams in the remaining games.
Sorry Eagle fans, give up the season on them. They've already given up on themselves.
Jacksonville Jaguars
7 of 10They may have one of top rushing games in the league, thanks mostly to Maurice Jones-Drew. They may have have a solid, average defense. But this season is not heading in the direction they wanted.
Jacksonville managed to pull off some surprises this year—such as beating Baltimore—and they may be entitled to pull off a few more.
While it's safe to say that they won't finish last in the division, the Jaguars won't be climbing anywhere either.
Kansas City Chiefs
8 of 10For a team that was a strong playoff contender last year and clinched their division spot, it was shocking to see them start off the season 0-3.
Then everything seemingly returned to normal when the Chiefs started to win again and went on a four-game winning streak.
Then they fell right back where they started. They are currently on a four-game losing streak and they face some tough teams coming up.
There is nothing left for them. This season is already over for the Chiefs.
Buffalo Bills
9 of 10The Buffalo Bills had it all going.
They won five of their first seven games. There was talk that the Bills were going to go all the way. There were talks of the Bills being likely Superbowl contenders. The Bills were all that. They were going to upset the AFC East division.
Then it all sizzled.
Buffalo has lost four straight in a row, most of them by double-digits. There's no fire left in this team. There's no hype anymore. The saying: "the faster they rise, the harder they fall," proves true for this team.
The only thing left for them is to watch their playoff hopes disappear.
Indianapolis Colts
10 of 10Watching the Colts this season just proves how great Peyton Manning really is. And how awful they are without him.
They've had a few chances to win this season, but they couldn't pull it off.
They are 0-11. Winless.
Their remaining games are against New England, Baltimore, Tennessee, Houston and Jacksonville.
They could win one, maybe two of these games. Could. But it won't happen. The Colts will go winless this season, and they've given up long ago.
