Urban Meyer Ohio State Rumors: A Successful Stint at OSU Makes Coach a Legend

Just announce it already, everybody knows he's going to. Urban Meyer seems all set to take the reigns as the Buckeyes' next head coach.

Urban Meyer has one of the most impressive reputations of any current, retired or semi-retired head coach in the college ranks.

Though his reputation is obviously a good one, he is on the cusp of legendary status. He really hasn't had a long enough tenure at a major program to turn the corner. Bowling Green is not a major program, neither is Utah, though Meyer almost made them one.

In two seasons as the Utes head coach, Meyer was 22-2, including a perfect season in 2005, that was culminated in a Fiesta Bowl victory over Pittsburgh.

Florida was obviously a major program. Through all of his success at Florida, which included two BCS national championships in 2006 and 2008.

Health issues and concerns about spending more time with his family led to Meyer leaving Florida after six seasons. As great as the Gators were under Meyer, his tenure can't compare to that of Steve Spurrier's in Florida, and other great coaches nationally.

For his legacy, Meyer needs a highly successful stint in Columbus to cement his status as one of the greatest coaches of his time.

It was apparent as you watched and listened to Meyer during ESPN telecasts that Meyer desperately missed the sidelines.

Once the Buckeyes' scandal broke, Jim Tressell left the program and Luke Fickell didn't engineer a miracle season, Urban Meyer's name would come up.

He is a native of Ohio, and this would be a dream position for him. It appears that his dream will soon become a reality. 

Now, we must wait and see if Meyer can help erase the Buckeye nightmare that were the events of the 2010-11' season.
