Steve Nash: Where Will Phoenix Suns Guard Be in 2011-12 NBA Season?
With a very uncertain future, the Suns have some hard personnel decisions to make. While Steve Nash is still an elite point guard and makes Phoenix a borderline playoff team by himself, his future is uncertain.
Nash is already past his prime and keeps the Suns in mediocrity, which is a position that makes it hard for the Suns to improve. The Suns have to quickly decide whether they want to build toward the future or try to compete today.
Phoenix Suns
1 of 4While Steve Nash is an appealing trade piece, he may not be traded at all. Really, he's the only thing keeping the Suns from being the worst team in the league, and Robert Sarver may not be ready to let him go.
Nash has made it clear that he will be loyal to Phoenix but is also interested in playing in other cities, possibly in pursuit of a ring. Chances are he won't get that chance and will be in Phoenix at the end of the season.
New York Knicks
2 of 4New York may be the right fit for Steve Nash if Phoenix does trade him. First, New York plays an uptempo style thanks to Mike D'Antoni, who has coached Nash before. Second, Nash would be reunited with his pick-and-roll partner, Amar'e Stoudemire.
Finally, New York has interesting trade chips in Landry Fields, who may not fit in with the Knicks anymore, and Iman Shumpert, who has astounding athleticism as well as potential.
However, Phoenix would most likely have to take on Chauncey Billups' contract, which is something Sarver may not want to do.
Miami Heat
3 of 4Think about it: Nash running the fast break with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade filling the wings. That dream may become a reality if Miami finds enough trade pieces and cap room to get Steve Nash.
This would really appeal to Nash because he joins a team that almost won the NBA Finals the year before. However, unless Miami finds enough intriguing trade pieces, this trade is not likely.
Toronto Raptors
4 of 4The main thing the Raptors offer is location. Being the only Canadian NBA team adds a lot of interest in Nash trade rumors. Nash has said that he is interested in playing for Toronto.
Much like Miami, outside of DeMar DeRozan, the Raptors don't offer much in return. The Raptors do have a young core but may be unwilling to part with key players for Nash. If there was a wild-card team to get Nash, Toronto would be it.
