BCS Bowl Predictions: Virginia Tech Will Dominate Orange Bowl

Nicholas GossNov 27, 2011

Virginia Tech is one of the most underrated teams in the country, and after they destroy Clemson in ACC championship game next Saturday, the Hokies will dominate whoever they face in the Orange Bowl.

The Hokies have one of the best defenses in the country, and their 15.6 points allowed per game average ranks seventh in the country.

Virginia Tech is fifth in the BCS and have a case to be ranked ahead of Stanford and Oklahoma State in the new poll.

They have won seven straight games since an October 1 loss to Clemson while defeating their opponents by an average of almost two touchdowns during that span.

After many thought their rivalry game with Virginia on Saturday was a trap game, the Hokies dominated the Cavaliers 38-0.

Running back David Wilson is giving opponents a really difficult time of beating Virginia Tech right now. The junior has rushed for 1,595 yards with nine touchdowns this season, including 153 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries versus Virginia.

Wilson's running game has given the Hokies' offense a nice balance, and it has made them very tough to defend over the past two months.

With most of the Hokies' success given to the defense, the offense has played very well recently to help the defense when it has made mistakes.

Virginia Tech has scored over 30 points in five of its last seven games, and have become a much improved team offensively since the start of the season.

The Hokies are the team no one wants to play in a BCS bowl game. They are firing on all cylinders and are capable of shutting down any offense.

A matchup with a team that scores a ton of points such as Houston or Oklahoma State would be a very interesting matchup for the Hokies in the Orange Bowl.

Regardless of who they play, Virginia Tech's ability dominate the possession battle by running the ball effectively and hold opponents to about 15 points will allow them to beat whoever they play in the Orange Bowl.

There are few teams in college football who can dominate games by running the ball and playing superior defense, and the Hokies are one of those teams.
