BCS Bowl Projections: Oregon vs. Houston and 2 More Epic Matchups

Justin WeltonNov 27, 2011

It’s almost “the most wonderful time of the year” in college football. Bowl season is a thing of beauty, but the important bowls are the only things that matter to me.

These would be epic BCS bowl matchups, if they were to happen.

Boise State vs. Arkansas

Arkansas’s two losses came against the two best teams in the country. They are currently ranked No. 3 in the BCS standings.

Boise State, who gets screwed just about every year by the BCS, is ranked No. 7 in the rankings.

If you enjoy rooting for the “little guys” like Boise State, Houston, TCU or BYU, then you would want to see the Broncos face an SEC team like Arkansas. Let’s see a great SEC team against a team that people love to hate.

Sounds like an intriguing matchup to me.

Boise State already defeated Georgia, the SEC-East winner, by double-digits this season. I’d love to see them get another shot at a SEC team.

Maybe, if they won, it would shut the critics up about how they can’t play with the big guys.

It would be a good game, too. Kellen Moore is having another outstanding year, having thrown for 38 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

Alabama vs. LSU

I know people don’t want to hear about this matchup, but Alabama is the only team good enough to beat LSU. They had their chances to defeat the Tigers, but turnovers, missed field goals and bonehead plays lost the game for the Crimson Tide.

The score at the end of the game was 9-6 LSU in overtime.

Both defenses are the two best in the country. Alabama is allowing nine points per game, while LSU is allowing 11 points per game. They both have equal NFL talent on the defensive side of the ball, and both offenses have their share of problems.

The SEC has won five BCS Championship games in a row. This year won’t be different, with three teams in the Top Five. The conference is the best in the nation, and they deserve to have their two best teams go at it again.

The BCS National Championship game is special. Even though people love to hate on the BCS (I’m one), fans still watch every national championship game. As much as we want a playoff system, the BCS National Championship game is a thing of greatness.

If Alabama and LSU were to square off again, I’m sure it would be another instant classic.

Oregon vs. Houston

How awesome would it be if Oregon and Houston got together in a BCS bowl game? What would the over/under in points be? 100? 105?

Neither offense would have trouble dicing the other. Oregon’s offense loves to run the ball. They are averaging 291 yards on the ground per game. Their offense is scoring 46 points per game—third in the nation.

Houston’s offense is just as dynamic, but in another way. Quarterback Case Keenum is putting up absurd numbers for the Cougars. He has nearly 5,000 yards passing, 43 touchdowns and only three interceptions.

He is the nation’s leading passer at 450 yards per game. Keenum and the Cougars’ offense are leading the nation in points scored per game with 53.

Could you imagine? They are averaging a combined 1,124 yards of total offense and 99 points per game.

Insane. I’m hooked.

It would be the shootout of the ages. If you love offense, this would be the game for you.
