Urban Meyer Ohio State: Why Buckeyes Need Meyer to Recruit Elite Playmakers
With Jim Tressel no longer the head coach at Ohio State, the Buckeyes need Urban Meyer to join them in order to recruit elite players.
Interim head coach Luke Fickell will not cut it if the Buckeyes are to remain elite. While it must be difficult recruiting for a program like Ohio State that is undergoing major changes due to NCAA violations, Fickell has been unable to recruit talented players in the same way Meyer would.
Recruiting is a huge part of college sports, and in order to remain and elite program, the Buckeyes need elite players.
That's where Urban Meyer comes in.
Meyer is such a good recruiter that people wondered whether or not he was breaking NCAA rules in order to get recruits. By signing seven top 10 defensive recruits and five in the top five, Meyer was able to build a strong defense during his time with the Gators.
Meyer also brought in offensive playmakers and protection for them, and it was his recruiting that helped Florida win two national championship games during his time with the Gators.
Meyer is clearly one of the best college football recruiters of our time, and if anyone could help turn the Buckeyes around, it would be him. Where Meyer goes elite talent follows, and over the course of a few seasons, he would easily put together an elite program.
The type of resources Meyer would be given access to at Ohio State would be comparable to that of Florida, with the exception being that more elite recruits come from the south than the midwest. However, Meyer will still be able to bring in talented recruits wherever he goes, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
We know the Buckeyes need better recruiters than they have, and allowing Urban Meyer to take the reigns of this program would be the best-case scenario.
Anyone besides Meyer will have trouble bringing in recruits to a program that has lost so much of its swagger, and he is the only man fit for the job.
