2012 NFL Mock Draft: Offensive Studs Who Will Immediately Make a Massive Impact

Michael DixonNov 25, 2011

As the NFL season progresses, it has become more and more likely that the Indianapolis Colts will  pick at No. 1 in April's draft.

Beyond that, the order could go any number of ways, especially when you consider season-ending injuries. It's a good thing for those teams that there is no shortage of offensive players in this year's draft.

So let's take a look at a few of the top offensive players and where they're likely to end up.

Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck (QB), Stanford

Luck is the clear No. 1 pick, and the Colts are clearly going to get that pick. For them to not get it, they will need to win two games, and I don't see that happening. The question is, with Peyton Manning's return looming, will they take Luck?

At this point, I would. You have to give an edge to the younger quarterback, and Manning's injury is serious. Luck is an accurate passer with good mobility. He seems to understand offenses better than anyone else that's come around in years.

If the Colts want to keep Manning, they will trade this pick. Look at the other places where I have quarterbacks going for a hint.

Miami Dolphins: Landry Jones (QB), Oklahoma

While Matt Barkley has the higher upside, Jones is more of an immediate impact kind of guy. Actually, in the case of Barkley, I would advise him to go back to USC for his senior season, but that's a debate for another day.

Miami needs a quarterback. Matt Moore is doing an admirable job, but he's not a long-term answer as a starter.

I like the way that Jones leads the Oklahoma offense and expect him to come in and make an impact similar to that Sam Bradford made in 2010. The only difference is that Bradford did that in the NFC West, and this would be in the AFC East.

That's certainly a tough division to manage, but Miami won't do anything significant in it without a quarterback.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Alshon Jeffery (WR), South Carolina

In a loaded receiving class, Jeffery is the top name out there. His combination of size, strength and speed makes him a matchup nightmare. More importantly, he can make an immediate impact.

The Jaguars have pieces in place. With the defense they have, Blaine Gabbert slinging the ball around and Maurice Jones-Drew in the backfield, it's clear that Gabbert needs more targets to throw to.

That's where Jeffery enters the picture. He would give them a vertical threat that they haven't had for a long time. In the AFC South, one big impact player can make all the difference.

Arizona Cardinals: Trent Richardson (RB), Alabama

The Alabama back has by far the best NFL game of any back in the draft. In general, the Cardinals need a lot of help. Kurt Warner masked a lot of weaknesses for a team that's not nearly as good now as they were when he was there.

While they can go in any number of ways, it's hard to see the Cardinals competing until they develop more of a running game.

Beanie Wells is not a feature back. With a player like Richardson taking the bulk of the carries, Wells would be in a far better position to thrive.
