Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
"The Yankees are in this game, make no mistake. The Red Sox are not completely out either, despite owner John Henry’s e-mail claiming otherwise. The Yankees, according to multiple industry sources, have had serious conversations with Boras about Teixeira and will continue those talks. They have yet to put their best offer on the table.
"
"Two sources confirmed that Boras and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talked Friday, but they said it was Boras—not Cashman—who initiated contact.
One source said Boras gave Cashman an estimate of what it would cost to land Teixeira, a superb defensive and offensive first baseman. The ballpark figure reportedly was about $22 million to $23 million per year on an eight-year contract, for a total of $180 million to $185 million.
"
"The Yankees remain connected to the Mark Teixeira sweepstakes, waiting and watching to see what develops with the free-agent first baseman’s situation.
Though the Yankees have not presented Teixeira and agent Scott Boras with an offer, there has been internal conversations within the organization about doing so, as the club seeks one big power bat to complement its lineup.
"
"The Yankees are interested in signing Teixeira, according to two people in baseball with knowledge of the matter, but for the moment are unwilling to pay him more than $160 million over eight years, one of them said.
The Yankees’ offer is less than what the Red Sox presented Teixeira last week. Boston’s offer is believed to be for eight years for close to $170 million.
"
It seems to me now that everybody is still in the race. The rumors that the Yankees weren’t going after him were false. Now people say the Red Sox are still in it, so it looks like there is still competition out there. The Yankees don’t plan on going nuts here. They already brought in the two best pitchers on the free agent market.
I don’t see them going more the eight years or $200M. So, it all depends on what the other teams offer, and then you should see the Yankees jump in and make an offer.
