Packers vs. Lions: Who Disappointed Most on Thanksgiving?

Chris TrapassoNov 24, 2011

The Green Bay Packers were tested early, but were clearly the more efficient, aggressive and mature team in their 27-15 win over the Detroit Lions to kick off the NFL's Thanksgiving action.

Detroit missed a fantastic opportunity to make a statement to the rest of the NFL on their home turf.

Not the high drama I was expecting.

What were the most disappointing aspects of the Lions' loss?

Matthew Stafford

Was the Lions' game plan to repeatedly check down?

Sure seemed like it.

Obviously, if his receivers are covered, there's nothing Stafford can do besides check down (or run), but the Packers defense was allowing the second most passing yards in the NFL up to this point.

He was intercepted three times, and his touchdown came when the score was 24-8.

Stafford's decision-making was average, and he was late on a few throws.

With all that God-given talent, I was expecting more from the former No. 1 overall pick. When will he take that next step as a quarterback?

The Refs

There were 18 penalties in this game—11 on the Lions and seven on the Packers. While not all their calls were terrible, they were very inconsistent. Was there any difference between the late-hit penalty called when Kyle Vanden Bosch hit Aaron Rodgers and the no-call when Clay Matthews blasted Matt Stafford a few plays before?

Maybe there was a little less "shoulder" in Vanden Bosch's hit.

Maybe.

They weren't allowing much holding down the field for the Lions defensive backs, but the Packers certainly were physical with Detroit's receivers.

In the end, the sloppy play might have been worse.

Ndamukong Suh

What are you thinking, Suh?

Why are you talking trash into an offensive lineman's face and shoving his helmet into the turf after he pancakes you anyway.

Lost of lot of respect for him today.

I'm fine with him being ultra-aggressive on each and every down, that's what makes him great, but making bone-headed plays and kicking people is totally unnecessary.

Leaders don't commit stupid penalties in critical games in critical situations like Suh did today.

Honorable Mention: Nickelback.

Question. Does Nickelbeck listen to their own music, or do they prefer other music like the rest of us?
