NFL Picks Week 12: Philadelphia Eagles Will Pull Another Upset over New England

Brian RoachNov 24, 2011

The Philadelphia Eagles are back on the right track with a much-needed win over the New York Giants this past Sunday, but it is time to face a tough New England Patriots squad who can score at will, with the likes of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski leading the Pats offense.

The Eagles are 1-4 at home, but they have the tools necessary to beat the Patriots. Sure, Michael Vick is most likely not playing, but LeSean McCoy will lead the way for the Eagles to continue their winning ways.

LeSean McCoy Destroys the Patriots Defense

1 of 4

LeSean McCoy leads the NFL with 1,019 rushing yards, and the Patriots have yet to face one of the elite running backs in the NFL.

The Eagles should use this to their advantage when they face the Patriots on Sunday, especially with Vince Young as the starting quarterback.

McCoy will torch the Pats defense with 150-plus rush yards and a couple touchdowns.

He will be the main factor of the Eagles' upset over the Pats.

Patriots Defense Is Too Young

2 of 4

The Patriots have the worst defense against the pass, so Vince Young should have an easy time if he can pick apart the Pats secondary.

However, Young needs to realize that he is not the quarterback he used to be and should throw for more than 300 yards.

The rush defense is struggling as well, and McCoy will take advantage of any holes that he sees when he starts running.

They had a great game against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Chiefs offense was run by a young quarterback.

Young is a veteran in the NFL, and he will be able to pull out a victory in this game.

Matchup To Watch

Rob Gronkowski vs. the Eagles Defense

Rob Gronkowski has been the go-to guy on offense for the past several weeks.

He leads all Patriots with 10 touchdown receptions and is second on the team with 805 yards.

Gronkowski has scored twice in the last two games and is torching defenses left and right.

The Eagles defense needs to just put him on double coverage to stop him from getting these big chunks of yards.

If the Eagles can do this successfully, then the Pats will be forced to go to either Wes Welker or another less-viable option.

Prediction

4 of 4

The Eagles will improve to 2-4 at home with a much-needed 31-24 victory over the Patriots.

Vince Young will throw two touchdowns and McCoy will rush in for two scores.

The defense will hold Brady under 300 yards and will force the Patriots to turn the ball over three times.

This win will pull the Eagles one win from a .500 record and could put them back in the running for the NFC East title.
