Urban Meyer Ohio State Rumors: Latest on the Worst-Kept Secret in CFB

Alex KayNov 24, 2011

Urban Meyer is going to coach Ohio State, despite the fact that the official words out of his mouth haven’t changed.

ESPN, his current employer, asked him about his future with the school. The college football analyst and two-time national title winner had a pretty terse response.

"I have not been offered any job nor is there a deal in place," Meyer said in a statement. "I plan on spending Thanksgiving with my family and will not comment on this any further."

However, there are still a ton of rumors swirling and Meyer is just denying the inevitable at this point.

I don’t know why he’s being so coy about telling the world that his dream job came calling and he accepted. Nevertheless, he is. Therefore, we now need to piece together the real details from other sources.

First, Dom Tiberi, a television news reporter in Ohio who spoke to Kirk Herbstreit, says that he feels Meyer may be introduced as the new football coach during the halftime of a basketball game.

Duke travels to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes for the first time since 1964, when they played a double overtime thriller. The date and time is set for Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 p.m. EDT. The game will have insane media coverage as two Top 25 teams take center stage.

The new football coach being named would send it over the top.

Darren Rovell took some time to poke fun at so many people talking about Meyer getting the job and him denying he was offered it.

Paul Pabst, producer of the Dan Patrick Show, has a great quote from former Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick.

It’s true that Meyer retired for health and family reasons, so how is he ready to jump back into coaching after a few short months?

I have no problem with him returning to the game, but to spurn Florida and retire for less than a year is ridiculous.

Seth Davis called him out on this, too. It seems hypocritical that the man abandons programs after he feels he can no longer win with his personnel.

With all of that said, there really is no new news on the Urban Meyer to OSU front this wonderful Thanksgiving and he is probably spending it with his family. At least he’s being honest there.
