BCS Bowl Predictions: No Hope for BCS Title Shakeup in Raucous Rivalry Week

Gabe ZaldivarNov 24, 2011

This weekend will be an epic display of college game featuring bitter rivals. It will be great programming but will mean little towards the BCS Championship Game.

We can drink plenty of the Kool-Aid that is being passed around in the form of pregame hype. By Monday, the worst fears of those not wanting to watch a 9-6 title game will come to fruition.

Yes, Alabama and LSU will be standing as stout as ever after delivering knockout blows to would-be contenders; it is time to just accept that we are going to see the rematch of the century, or at the very least a game you can sleep through.

And really, why would you expect anything different? Both teams have maneuvered this season with the power that only true contenders can deliver: the fact is nobody can beat these teams other than these teams themselves.

You wanted a playoff system. Well, this is the best that college football could do to satiate that need. Here are the two biggest games of the week:

No. 2 Alabama at No. 24 Auburn: The Iron Bowl is the biggest, baddest mofo in the rivalry game spectrum. These two teams hate one another...blah, blah, yadda, yadda. I don't care if these two teams want to drop their pads and go fisticuffs at midfield, because it is all about talent and poise.

Alabama will come in with a defense that cannot be breached by the best of teams. So, I don't see how an Auburn squad already playing above their heads has any chance. This game will be over at some point in the third quarter.

No. 3 Arkansas at No. 1 LSU: The same goes for LSU who has just as stout a defense as Alabama. Arkansas may have a prolific offense, but the Tigers has eaten those types of teams before.

If Oregon's no-huddle offense that fatigues others was no match, then Arkansas' aerial attack will be just as fruitless. After this game, there will be no doubt that LSU is the most certifiable No. 1 in years.
