And they called it puppy love. 

At least, that is what the National Dog Show is all about. Thanksgiving is not just for well-cooked turkeys. It's also the perfect time to sit back and dissect a multitude of dogs and decide whether that food coma is infecting your TV watching decisions. 

The National Dog Show is up ladies and gents, and we have you covered on all things canine. Let's delve into two hours of television that finally answers the question, which is the best dog in the nation? I can hardly keep my kibbles in their bits from excitement. 

When: Thursday, November 24th, 12 p.m. All Time Zones

Where: Philadelphia, PA

Judging

In order to be crowned champion, each dog must earn 15 points at AKC shows. This is accomplished by defeating other dogs of the same breed. 

The manner in which they are judged depends on the breed. Each breed will need to show they have the qualities expressly dictated by the group of dog they fall into. 

The winners of each group then compete for Best in Show. 

Groups: Herding, Hound, Non-Sporting, Sporting, Terrier, Toy, Working

Tips for Watching

This is far more than watching a bunch of dogs being taken for a walk. The judges are watching for a few things when the canines come into the room. 

You can do the same. The most important is the presence, gait and performance. They will also need to show the attributes for which they were specifically bred. 

The Best in Show will be prancing around the floor on Thursday afternoon. Can you spot them? Tune in for a full day of dog-gone good fun.
