Week 12 NFL Picks: Washington Redskins and Teams That Will Keep Losing

Daniel O'BrienNov 23, 2011

Week 12 in the NFL is Thanksgiving week, but some teams haven't had much to be thankful for recently. Several of those teams will continue their losing ways this weekend.

Some clubs, like the Buffalo Bills, have fallen off the map after brilliant starts. Other teams are reeling from injuries, face brutal schedules or are simply underachieving.

Let's take a look at a few teams who won't be winning anytime soon. Don't hold your hopes high for this list of lackluster franchises.

Buffalo Bills

1 of 6

It looks like the Buffalo Bills have run out of magic this season. After a phenomenal 5-2 start to their season, Buffalo's offense slowed down and Chan Gailey's club went on a three-game skid.

The losing streak will continue this Sunday against the New York Jets. The offense, which was already struggling recently (8.7 points per game in its last three games), will likely be without running back Fred Jackson. Jackson's calf injury makes him questionable at best for this weekend.

A stout Jets defense will limit the Bills' productivity. Sanchez and company will win a low-scoring game.

Week 12 Pick: The Jets will top Buffalo 23-13 at MetLife.

Minnesota Vikings

2 of 6

The Minnesota Vikings have been scrappy and lost several close games this season, but things look bleak for them this weekend on the road against the Atlanta Falcons.

Leslie Frazier's club just doesn't have the passing game or the pass defense to hang with Matt Ryan's birds. Ponder is still learning and is an inefficient quarterback, so the offense is still lacking true balance. Defensively, the Vikings will have their hands full with Atlanta's variety of pass-catching and rushing weapons.

It's going to be a tall task for Minnesota to go into the Georgia dome and put up a fight against the Falcons. Atlanta should be a multiple-touchdown favorite.

Week 12 pick: Falcons 31, Vikings 16

New York Giants

3 of 6

A couple weeks ago, the New York Giants were 6-2 and had the look of an elite NFL team. After disappointing losses to San Francisco and Philadelphia, Giants fans are scratching their heads and wondering how Tom Coughlin's crew is going to survive their remaining schedule.

Their rough schedule ahead begins with a trip to New Orleans for Monday Night Football. The Giants' inconsistent 4-3 defense faces Drew Brees and one of the best passing attacks in the world.

Meanwhile, they need to try to generate much more productivity from the running game to complement Eli Manning.

Both teams need to win this game to stay atop their respective divisions, so it will probably be a close contest, but I give the edge to the Saints coming off a bye week.

Week 12 pick: New York's losing streak continues as they fall 27-23.

Kansas City Chiefs

4 of 6

With Tyler Palko at the helm, the Kansas City Chiefs are in trouble. Last week, they lost in ugly fashion to New England. Don't expect things to get prettier this week against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With three interceptions and no touchdowns last week, it's clear that Palko has a long way to go; he's still getting a feel for the offense and only averaging 5.7 yards per completion. He needs to work on his timing and chemistry with the receiving corps.

Unfortunately, this isn't training camp, and the Chiefs run up against one of the league's best pass defenses, the Steelers.

Also, Pittsburgh is coming off a bye week, while Kansas City has had a short week after Monday's loss. This one shouldn't be close, and Kansas City will be pushed farther out of the AFC West playoff picture.

Week 12 pick: Kansas City loses at home, 29-10.

Washington Redskins

5 of 6

Until the Washington Redskins can become more balanced on offense, they will struggle to win games for the rest of this season. This week, they face a solid Seattle Seahawks defense.

Pete Carroll's squad will make Washington's offense one-dimensional, and they will wear them down much like they wore down Baltimore two weeks ago.

Recently, Seattle has found ways to score with the combination of quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and running back Marshawn Lynch. They will top the Redskins in a low-scoring game at CenturyLink Field.

Week 12 pick: Grossman and company fall 22-16.

Indianapolis Colts

6 of 6

The Carolina Panthers vs. the Indianapolis Colts is game between the cellar-dwellers of the AFC South and the NFC South. The Colts' winless season will continue because the Panthers are just a bit better in each phase of the game.

Indianapolis' running game lacks bite, and its passing game is one of the worst in the league for obvious reasons. Carolina has more playmakers and can move the chains better than the Colts. The Panthers actually have a fairly balanced offense, averaging 272 yards per game through the air and 129 per game on the ground.

Week 12 pick: Indianapolis drops their sixth home game, losing to Newton and company 24-15.
