Kurt Pellegrino is a Sure-Fire Title Contender in Bellator

The former UFC lightweight employee Kurt Pellegrino makes his debut for Bellator Fighting Championships against Patricky Freire in a fight that if he wins, will put him firmly in the title contender’s hot seat.

Pellegrino (16-6 MMA, 7-5 UFC) who ended his affiliation with the UFC sometime in early 2011 has decided not to renew his contract and has since jumped ship to Bellator.

During his tenure at the UFC, “Batman” won two Submission of the Night awards and one fight of the night award.

Those wins came against came against Nate Mohr, Fabricio Camoes and Thiago Tavares.

He has notable losses to Nate Diaz, George Sotiropoulos and Gleison Tibau.

His opponent come fight night is Freire (9-2), also known as “Pitbull” who’s an accomplished jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai practitioner and trains out of Team Nogueira.

His last fight was against the current Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, in which he lost via unanimous decision.

Now, if Batman can get past the Pitbull (which will be no easy feat), better yet if he can win in emphatic fashion all the more for the next phase in his ascendancy to Bellator glory.

That next fight should be against Chandler’s latest victim, Eddie “The Silent Assassin” Alvarez, whom he defeated via rear naked choke at Bellator 58.

Batman has a much better chance at winning the lightweight title at Bellator than he had at the UFC—a list of who’s who of MMA’s lightweight combatants reside in that division.

Maybe it was a good move to leave the company when he did.

Needless to say, now it’s a whole new ball game.

Pellegrino looks the part, now he’s got to act the part of a sure-fire title contender. A loss on Saturday, November 26 at Bellator 59 and his sure-fire contendership goes up in smoke along with his Bellator title aspirations.

It’s that simple.
