Why Were the WWE Tag Titles Switched to The Miz and John Morrison?

Many people have been wondering why the WWE did not show the Tag Team Title match pitting The Miz and John Morrison against CM Punk and Kofi Kingston. It was a live event in Toronto, Canada when it happened.

It was not on WWE programming and people heard about it on WWE.com first. I was shocked by it because when any gold switches off WWE programming, it is quickly switched back before a WWE show like RAW or SmackDown.

The Tag Titles switched once before on a live event show off WWE programming, but, as I mentioned, it was quickly put back on the former champions the next night.

So many are still wondering why. There are actually two reasons why the WWE gave Miz and Morrison the tag gold.

It had more to do with pushing Miz and Morrison rather than focus on Punk and Kofi as singles wrestlers.

Coming off their Slammy win, creative wanted to give Miz and Morrison the tag titles as well so they could "brag" that they now have two types of gold.

Since they were the Best tag team of the year" they needed to at least have some gold. They actually never got a rematch from losing a fatal four-way tag team title match a while back.

They lost them to Ryder and Hawkins and they lost them to Primo and Carlito their first title defense. They problem with those two as that Hawkins and Ryder did not work in any storyline after the La Familia one.

The WWE figured they would since they were doing so well in the La Familia. They figured they could give them many good storylines that would boost their careers, and it didn't happen.

The second reason was that CM Punk was supposed to win the IC Title No. 1 contender spot. And Kofi looks to be going for other gold too. As I mentioned before the WWE wanted them to go solo, even though they worked well as a tag team.

Punk could possibly win the Intercontinental Title from Regal since the WWE really wants Punk to do well. They had already put the World Title on him before and they figured it didn't work out as good for Punk because he was still sort of an unknown star.

Even though he had done well in ECW before going to RAW he really needed more popularity. He had a good run as World Champion, but they feel that if he were to stay on RAW a little longer he would be a better World Champion in the future.

By possibly putting him in the IC Title chase it would insure him getting popular and he could be a champion in doing so. William Regal is a good champion, but they basically gave it to Regal to promote the European trip.

They had not figured out a good storyline to Regal cutting lose of the title yet, so they figured they let him hang on to it for a little while longer. Punk could most likely be IC Champion before to long.

Back to Miz and Morrison, they two are great stars in the WWE. Both are not yet ready to the WWE to be singles stars. Even though Morrison had been a great IC Champion in the past and ECW Champion, too.

Miz and Morrison work well together and are the most famous tag team in the WWE currently. They could be put in main event matches as a tag team, but not as singles for now since they work better with the crowd as a tag team.

I'd look for a long tag title reign for them.
