Texas vs. Texas A&M: Latest Spread Info, BCS Impact and Predictions

T.J. McaloonNov 22, 2011

In one of the longest standing traditions, Texas’ best college football programs face off as No. 25 Texas (6-4, 3-4) faces Texas A&M (6-5, 4-4).

The sad thing is this rivalry is going to be coming to an end soon as A&M is leaving for the SEC next year. In the last game with these two teams in the same conference, this game will have a lot of emotions heading into this game. Plus, a win for either school will give them bragging rights for a long time in this rivalry.

Spread

According to SBGglobal, it’s Texas A&M favored by 7.5 points. You should take the Texas Longhorns in this game, as the Aggies offense has been to sporadic to place any trust in.

Over/Under

According to SBGlobal, the over/under is 55.5 points. Take the under in this game. With the inconsistencies to the Aggies' offense and the Longhorns' defense playing at a high level it will make for a game that sees both teams scoring in the 20s.

Texas Key Injuries

WR Jaxon Shipley: Shipley is questionable with a knee injury that has kept him out of action for two straight weeks.

OL Sedrick Flowers: Flowers is questionable with a shoulder injury that has kept him out for two straight weeks.

RB Foswhitt Whittaker: Whittaker is out for the season with an knee injury.

Texas A&M
Key Injuries

WR Jeff Fuller: Foller is probable with a toe injury. The injury should not keep him out for Thursday’s game.

WR Kenric McNeal: McNeal is questionable for Thursday’s game with a foot injury. I

RB Cyrus Gray: Gray is doubtful with a shoulder injury. It looks like he will not be a go for Thursday’s game.

BCS/Top-25 Implications

For both of these teams, this game has no implications on either the top-25 polls or the BCS standings. They have lost too many games this year to be a factor in the BCS standings or the top-25 polls.

Keys to a Texas Victory

The Longhorns must shut down the A&M passing game. In last week’s loss against Kansas State, Texas dominated K-State's offense only allowing 121 total yards.

The Longhorns must get their offense going. While their defense shut down Kansas State last week, their offense did nothing to reflect how well the defense was playing.

The Longhorns must find some form of a passing game. Against Kansas State, the Longhorns did a great job in rushing, as they gained 191 yards on the ground. However, the passing game only put up 119 yards. They have to play better to have a chance this week against Texas A&M.

Keys to a Texas A&M Victory

The Aggies have to play a complete game. Two of their five losses this year were after they had a large halftime lead. Two other losses went to overtime.

The Aggies have to get quarterback Ryan Tannehill time to find his receivers. On the year, Tannehill has a great stat line of 3,191 passing yards with 26 touchdowns.

The Aggies have to shut down the Texas running game. The Longhorns have an awful passing attack this year. If the Aggies can shut down Malcolm Brown and the running game, it will make it almost impossible for Texas to score.

Prediction

The final battle on Thanksgiving night between the Texas Longhorns and the Texas A&M Aggies will be a defensive slugfest. The game will be tight throughout, with the Aggies pulling out the victory in the end.

Texas A&M’s offense, specifically the passing game, will be the reason why the Aggies pull this game out over their in-state rivals.
