Week 12 Waiver Wire: Top 10 Additions in Fantasy Football
It's Week 12, football fans, and that means fantasy football owners everywhere are working desperately to pick up a late-season W and earn that all important spot in the playoffs.
With injuries piling up and the grind of a long NFL season taking its toll, here's a look at 10 waiver wire pickups who could put your take your team to the next level this week.
Brent Celek, TE, Philadelphia Eagles
1 of 10If you're looking for a productive tight end to fill out your Week 12 fantasy lineup, look no further than Philadelphia's Brent Celek.
After a slow start to the season, Celek has managed to turn it on as of late, recording no fewer than four catches in each of the Eagles' last four contests.
Even more appealing is the fact that Celek and the Eagles are taking on a porous New England pass defense that will be coming into Sunday's contest on short rest.
Don't expect anything remarkable, but Celek is certainly serviceable and could do some damage considering the favorable matchup.
Anthony Fasano, TE, Miami Dolphins
2 of 10If Celek isn't available in your league, then you may want to consider Miami's Anthony Fasano.
The Dolphins are set to face Dallas in a Thanksgiving Day showdown this Thursday and the Cowboys have given up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.
Fasano is only owned in 4 percent of Yahoo! leagues, but he has scored three touchdowns over the past three weeks and could very well be flying off of the waiver wires in the weeks to come. Pick him up while you still can.
Donald Brown, RB, Indianapolis Colts
3 of 10If Joseph Addai remains sidelined this week, take a close look at Indianapolis' Donald Brown.
While Brown hasn't particularly shined since taking over for Addai, he has been able to rack up 276 yards and two touchdowns on the ground over the past several weeks.
The Colts are coming off of a bye week and play host to Carolina this Sunday, so if you're willing to take a risk, Brown could be poised for a big-time fantasy day.
Just be sure to pay close attention to Addai's injury status as the the week progresses.
Laurent Robinson, WR, Dallas Cowboys
4 of 10If you haven't picked up Dallas' Laurent Robinson please, please, please do so right now.
Robinson isn't a big-name wideout by any means, but he has been a fantasy owner's dream since taking over for the injured Miles Austin.
Over the past four weeks he has racked up 17 catches for five touchdowns.
Tony Romo loves this guy, and if can manage to fit him into your lineup this week as the Cowboys take on Miami, you'll learn to love him too.
Andy Dalton, QB, Cincinnati Bengals
5 of 10The Cincinnati Bengals have lost their last two contests, but rookie quarterback Andy Dalton has continued to look impressive.
Last week the rookie gunslinger racked up a career-high 373 passing yards against a stout Baltimore defense, and he should be able to enjoy similar success against Cleveland this Sunday.
While the Browns' pass defense is actually quite solid, the Bengals are expecting to have rookie wideout A.J. Green back for this one, so they should be able to spread the ball around and put up some nice numbers through the air.
Jerome Simpson, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
6 of 10Cincinnati's Jerome Simpson continues to prove that he is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the AFC.
In the absence of A.J. Green last week, Simpson managed to pull in eight balls for 152 yards. It was his third 100-yard game of the season.
While he's a bit unreliable, considering his somewhat streaky performances, he has the potential to explode on any given Sunday.
If Cleveland's Joe Haden can put the clamps down on Green this week, Simpson will once again be the go-to guy in Cincy's passing attack. That makes him worth the risk.
Kevin Smith, RB, Detroit Lions
7 of 10Remember that Kevin Smith guy who used to be a pretty good running back for the Lions? He's back.
Smith came out of nowhere last week to put up 140 yards and two rushing touchdowns on just 16 carries and an additional 61 receiving yards.
He's a hot-ticket item all across the fantasy football world this week, but if he's still available in your league, you may want to find room for him on your roster. He could have a tough go of it this week as Detroit takes on the unbeaten Packers, but he should get enough touches to at least prove productive from a fantasy standpoint.
Chris Ogbonnaya, RB, Cleveland Browns
8 of 10Chris Ogbonnaya isn't anything spectacular, but he's the go-to back in Cleveland as long as Peyton Hillis and Montario Hardesty are sidelined.
Over the past two weeks he has recorded 205 yards and a touchdown, and he looks to be finding his groove.
The Browns face a tough Cincinnati run defense this week but Ogbonnaya is still getting enough touches to make some noise, and starting running backs are almost always valuable regardless of their matchup.
Nate Burleson, WR, Detroit Lions
9 of 10Detroit's Calvin Johnson draws so much attention from opposing defenses that virtually any of the Lions' other wide receivers could make for a nice fantasy pickup.
The No. 2 wideout in Detroit is Nate Burleson, who has recorded 15 receptions for 146 yards and one touchdown over the past two weeks.
Assuming that the Packers focus on shutting down Johnson for the majority of Thursday's contest, Burleson should be able to find some openings in Green Bay's suspect defense and put up some nice numbers.
Arrelious Benn, WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
10 of 10He may be a deep sleeper pick, but if you're really desperate for some help at wide receiver this week, take a look at Tampa Bay's Arrelious Benn.
Benn caught five passes last week for 75 yards and also carried the ball once for nine.
While he may not explode against Tennessee this week, he should be able to post some decent numbers and could be a nice pickup in deeper fantasy leagues.
