John Henry: Red Sox "Not Going to Be a Factor" for Mark Teixeira
This was sort of a surprise to me.
Whispers were going around that the Red Sox and Tex were getting closer to reaching a deal, but things have changed. John Henry stated yesterday that he doesn’t expect the team to “be a factor” for Teixeira.

I guess after looking at what the other teams had to offer, they knew they wouldn’t be going that high. Supposedly, the Red Sox don’t want to go beyond eight years in a deal. I'd rather have Manny in the lineup, anyway.
I hope Teixeira goes to the Nationals, as the Yanks won’t have to face him. While he is there, I wouldn’t mind if he beat up the Mets (haha). If he doesn’t go to Washington, then I say he will go back to the Angels. At least that way he won’t be in the AL East.
I am not as high on Teixeira as other fans are. I'd rather have Manny Ramirez in pinstripes. I know a lot of fans are opposed to that, but I think he would be a great fit.
When you think of Teixeira...you think of a really good player, but when you think of Manny...you think of one of the best players of all-time. People are actually scared to pitch to Ramirez. Teixeira...not so much.
- Jon Heyman was just on Mike Francesa’s show, and he said that the Red Sox and Yankees aren’t completely out of it. Obviously you can never count them out, but it doesn’t look like anything will happen there.
Henry’s words: “We met with Mr. Teixeira and were very much impressed with him. After hearing about his other offers, however, it seems clear that we are not going to be a factor.”
