Chiefs vs Patriots: Predicting Stats for Tom Brady, Wes Welker and Others

Chris TrapassoNov 21, 2011

The New England Patriots host the Kansas City Chiefs in Foxborough tonight on Monday Night Football

Another real intriguing battle.

Not.

Anyway, this has "epic game" written all over it for Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski is fresh off consecutive 100-plus receiving yard games.

Here's my statistical predictions for the game's best players.

Yes, the Chiefs have some good players, too.

New England Patriots

Tom Brady

Is there anyone better in prime time? Off the top of my head, I can't think of anyone. The Chiefs don't have a horrendous defense, but they have been exposed in their last two defeats at the hands of the Dolphins and the Broncos.

Matt Moore and Tim Tebow don't exactly pose as big of a threat as Tom Brady does, right?

I expect New England to continue to utilize its no-huddle offense to keep the Chiefs' defense off balance and out of position.

Who's covering Rob Gronkowski?

Prediction: 28/36, 368 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT

I wonder if Kansas City's top corner, Brandon Flowers, will shadow Welker all evening? Either way, the little terror of a wide receiver will have his typical evening.

What makes you think he won't?

Prediction: 7 catches, 103 yards, 1 TD

Rob Gronkowski

Outside of maybe Jimmy Graham, is there a more intimidating tight end in the game today?

No.

Gronkowski can run like a wide receiver, essentially boxes out defenders, possesses great leaping ability for his size and catches everything.

Huge mismatch that Brady will exploit all evening.

Prediction: 8 catches, 131 yards, 2 TDs

Kansas City Chiefs

Tyler Palko

Palko isn't being thrown into as bad of a situation as this would have been a few years ago when the Patriots had a good defense, but we'll see his nerves tonight under the bright lights.

New England utterly confused Mark Sanchez last week and that should happen tonight.

Prediction: 15/34, 213 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

Dwayne Bowe

I'm definitely picking the Patriots to win this game at home, and they're the far superior club, but that doesn't mean a few Chiefs won't have respectable performances.

No one in the Patriots secondary can cover man-to-man and Palko will look for him early.

I just don't think the Chiefs signal-caller will be able to decipher the Patriots' defensive looks enough to get into much of a rhythm.

Prediction: 5 catches, 89 yards, 1 TD

Jon Baldwin

Baldwin has emerged a viable deep threat for KC, especially because of his elite athleticism and vertical leap.

He's still maturing as an all-around receiver, but should haul in a deep pass or two this evening.

Prediction: 3 catches, 70 yards
