How Much Longer Can Norv Turner Last on the San Diego Chargers?

When someone says, "It's all downhill from here," it's supposed to be a good thing. With Norv Turner at the helm, however, it isn't.

Let's go back to 2006. Marty Shottenheimer was fired as head coach for one reason: He couldn't win a playoff game. Great choice, A.J.

NEWSFLASH: Norv Turner can't even get to the playoffs.

In 2007, the Chargers won two playoff games and went to the AFC Championship game, where they lost to the Patriots with an injured quarterback. In 2008, they only won one playoff game. In the next season, no playoff wins. Last year, they didn't even make the playoffs. 

Starting to see a pattern here?

This season was different. Turner and the Chargers didn't have their normally slow start. The only positive situation here is that San Diego could go nowhere but up.

But again, Norv proved everyone wrong. Their 4-1 record suddenly turned to 4-6. The five-game losing streak is their longest since 2003.

Just a note: The year after their 4-12 season in 2003, A.J. Smith had the best draft class of his career. It was the "rebuilding" season. Well, it's pretty much time for another one of those.

While not all of the Chargers' lack of success can be put on Turner, most of it is. In my opinion, when Norv goes, A.J. should as well. If not, Manusky will probably be promoted to head coach.

But that's another discussion.

It seems like A.J. and Norv have ran the Chargers completely into the ground. Experts have been saying for years that the door is closing on San Diego. Sorry, Norv—it's finally closed. Now it's time to open it back up and push Turner out.

If—key word IF—Turner is fired, it won't be till after the season. It's time for this problem to be solved, and the ones to solve it are the Spanos. A.J. and Norv should be relinquished from the team that had the most potential in the last five years.
