NFL Week 12 Waiver Wire: Detroit Lions' Kevin Smith and Others You Must Add
On the Week 12 fantasy football waiver wire, we like the following player at each position:
QB Alex Smith, 49ers
His matchup with the Baltimore Ravens on Thanksgiving isn't that tasty, but he should feast on the leftovers in the 49ers' schedule, which includes the St. Louis Rams (twice), Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
RB Kevin Smith, Lions
You won't find many fantasy stories quite like Kevin Smith's. Just a week ago, Smith was unemployed and out of football. Now, after 201 total yards and three scores against the Carolina Panthers Sunday, Smith is the hottest waiver wire addition for Week 12. With quality running backs so hard to find this late in the season—not to mention, ones with good matchups like Smith has this week against the Green Bay Packers—Smith will be off the waiver wire in a hurry.
WR Torrey Smith, Ravens
Smith has had a roller coaster 2011 season, so buckle your safety belts if you decide to hop on this ride. The ups of the coaster might be worth it, however. Smith caught six passes for 165 yards and a score on Sunday, and he's had other big games this season (at St. Louis and Pittsburgh). The upside is obviously there from a fantasy perspective.
TE Heath Miller, Steelers
While Smith has been up-and-down in 2011, Heath Miller has been a model of consistency for the Steelers at tight end. There's been just one game this season in which Miller didn't catch at least three passes, and his 465 yards puts him ninth among all tight ends in total yards. He's worth an add if you're lacking at tight end.
DEF/ST, Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks have quietly put together a fantastic season on the defensive side of the football. They've given up an average of just 12 points per game over their current two-game winning streak. With Rex Grossman and the turnover-prone Redskins coming to Seattle, now is the time to insert the Seahawks as a spot start defense.
K David Akers, 49ers
The 49ers should be able to move the ball at times against the Ravens defense on Thanksgiving night, but they could struggle in the red zone. That will give Akers plenty of opportunities to bang home some field goal attempts.
