WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why CM Punk Has Peaked Too Early

Eric BallNov 21, 2011

The WWE needs to pump the brakes with CM Punk.

I was shocked to watch him put Alberto Del Rio down in submission on Sunday night's Survivor Series pay-per-view special.

Vince McMahon and the rest of the higher-ups should have thought about how much better it would of been for Punk to lose.

Sure, he has an insane fanbase that was chanting his name during the "main event" of The Rock and John Cena vs. The Miz and R-Truth, but he's destroying all of the competition, and the drama is lacking.

My hope was that he would lose to Del Rio, who is a incredible wrestler by the way, setting the stage for an epic rematch at WrestleMania next spring.

Now, Punk is going to be sporting his championship belt, acting a fool as he destroys the lesser-competition in front of him. I was hoping to see how he could handle some adversity, because up to this point in his short-lived career, he hasn't seen much of it.

In the ring, it was clear the two wrestlers were very evenly matched. This is the sort of new rivalry that can do wonders for the sports popularity. Right now, Punk doesn't really have a rival because he's dominating everybody so badly. Del Rio isn't the greatest in front of the camera, but he has the body and moves to be a absolute force in this sport.

The WWE dropped the ball.

WWE is giving Punk a ridiculous amount of star treatment. He had his own personal ring announcer for the evening in WWE Hall of Famer Howard Finkel.

They are giving him too much too soon. Punk reminds me of a teen movie star that peaks much too early.
Pump the brakes with Punk WWE.
