BCS Rankings: Alabama Already Proved They Don't Deserve LSU Rematch

T.J. McaloonNov 20, 2011

The way the BCS is set up is that teams who lose move down the standings letting other teams move up to fill in. It’s why the BCS is failing in it’s system by having Alabama as an almost lock to play LSU in this year’s BCS Championship Game.

Why do we want to see this Alabama team head into New Orleans to play an LSU team that has already proved that they can dominate the Tide?

In their matchup earlier this year, the LSU defense dominated an Alabama passing attack that had to try a trick play to get into the end zone. It seemed as if the only player on the Alabama roster who had any success against this LSU defense was running back Trent Richardson.

However, in that game against LSU he could only do so much. He didn’t get into the end zone, he only had 89 yards rushing and (aside from the opening game against Kent State) he had his only game where he failed to average less than four yards per carry.

Now, with the game moving from Tuscaloosa to New Orleans, it gives this excellent LSU defense over a month to prepare. Why would you think he would have any more success in this game as compared to their first matchup?

Let’s move away from who did what and who failed in their game three weeks ago. The game was dominated by defense, which is great, but both offenses made this game very hard to watch. LSU’s offense was worse than what Alabama put on the field that day.

The final score was 9-6, and only because Alabama’s kicker looked like he was picked off of the intramural field four hours before kick off. If the Crimson Tide’s kickers could have made one of their four missed attempts, we would be saying LSU has no right playing against Alabama again.

However, as much as everyone outside of Tuscaloosa does not want to see the Crimson Tide play the Tigers again on January 9, it’s something that we have to live with.

Hopefully Auburn upsets Alabama in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, so we do not have to see another boring 9-6 game to determine this year’s BCS National Champion.
