BCS Rankings: Houston Cougars Deserve to Be Ranked No. 2
The Houston Cougars, of any team in the country, most deserve to play LSU in the national championship game.
They are seemingly unbeatable at 11-0 and have every right to prove it to themselves and the nation by playing on the biggest possible stage.
It also makes sense because the most likely scenario for the national championship game is a rematch between LSU and Alabama. Does anyone really think that’s fair?
The two teams already played this year and it was a boring, low-scoring affair between two amazing defenses and offenses that have no clue what they are doing.
LSU came out on top during the regular season SEC showdown and should not have to play a team they’ve already dispatched this season.
Houston would provide a fresh challenge and it would give viewers one of the most entertaining championship games of all time.
The Cougars have the No. 1 offense in the nation and throw for 447.5 yards per game while scoring 53.1 points a game.
LSU gives up just 10 points per game and prefers to pound the ball on the ground. This makes for a perfect David vs. Goliath matchup.
It would be fun to root for Case Keenum’s squad as they attempt to take down a powerhouse SEC school as the first non-automatic qualifier to make the national championship game in the BCS era.
I also don’t understand people who complain about the Cougars not playing a tough enough opponent to deserve to be there. By going unbeaten, no matter whom you play, you should have the right to compete at the highest level.
If LSU and Houston are the only two undefeated teams at the end of the year, they should be the only two teams considered for the national title game.
