Presidents Cup 2011: Tiger Woods' Stellar Performance Will Lead to Dominant 2012

Adam WellsNov 20, 2011

When Tiger Woods clinched the 2011 Presidents Cup for the United States late Saturday night, he was also sending a message to the golf world that he is back and is going to be better than ever next season.

To say that Woods has had a tumultuous two-year run would be an understatement. His efforts over the previous two seasons have been a constant barrage of insults, criticisms and questions about how much he had left in the tank, thanks to the injuries and mental fatigue that have plagued him.

Even when Woods was picked for the Presidents Cup earlier this year, there was criticism of captain Fred Couples for announcing the decision as early as he did.

Here is what Couples said about the decision back in June (via USA Today):

"There is no reason for me to wait until Sept. 26 to pick Tiger," Couples said.. "He's the best player forever."

Even international captain, Greg Norman, was critical of the selection (via USA Today).

"

"I can understand the name of a Tiger Woods and his history of what he's done on the golf course. But I pick the guys who I think are ready to get in there and play and have performed to the highest levels leading up to it," Norman said. "If I was in (Bradley's) shoes, I would feel like I got gut-checked a little bit."

"

Woods has shown a vast improvement in his swing and psyche over the previous month. He still has a long way to go before he is back to being the most dominant golfer in the world, but he is a lot closer to being that player than the one that we have grown accustomed to.

Now, with the 2012 season getting ready to begin in just two months, Woods can take some positive momentum with him into the new year and know that all the work he has put in over the summer is starting to pay off.

Woods may not win every tournament he enters next season, but he will definitely find himself back in the winner’s circle and get at least one major thanks to his impressive performance in the Presidents Cup.
