UFC 139 Results: Michael McDonald vs Alex Soto Breakdown and Prediction
The first fight on the Spike broadcast of UFC 139 will feature one of the UFC's youngest up-and-comers in Michael McDonald (13-1), who will be taking on Alex Soto (6-0-1).
McDonald is only 20 years old, but he has already had two fights in the Octagon, having won both against Edwin Figueroa and Chris Cariaso. He is also a brown-belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Soto is undefeated at 6-0-1 with two wins by knockout and three by submission. He fights out of San Diego, California, and trains with Team Hurricane Awesome. He is filling in as a late replacement for Johnny Eduardo.
This is a build-up fight for McDonald, who the UFC will be looking to market as a future UFC title contender. Among the bantamweights outside of the top 10, McDonald has the most potential to make it all the way to the top.
Soto has the potential to upset his opponent, but it will be tough considering this is his first fight in the big leagues, and he lacks a lot of experience when compared to McDonald.
McDonald is still young in MMA, and a loss will probably come by him being surprised by his opponent's ability to do something he hasn't seen yet in his career.
Other than that, McDonald has shown he can compete in exciting back-and-forth battles and still come out with the victory, so he gets the advantage over three rounds in this fight.
Prediction: Michael McDonald wins by Unanimous Decision.
