Urban Meyer Ohio State: Former Gators Coach Is Perfect Fit for Buckeyes' Image

Andrew KulhaNov 19, 2011

The Ohio State Buckeyes are in need of a makeover and former Florida Gators head coach and current ESPN commentator Urban Meyer is just the guy for a job.

We all need a new look from time-to-time right?

Whether it's a haircut, new wardrobe or something a bit more drastic, there's no doubting that change can be very good.

Some people are afraid of it, but when you learn to embrace it you'll notice how valuable it really is.

Change heals the soul and grows the mind.

It can help us move on from the past and become new. Hopefully the act of becoming new in fact makes us better, and that's exactly what the Buckeyes need.

They need to get better.

There's no doubting the fact that the fallout from the Jim Tressel resignation and improper benefits scandal has scarred the football program.

What was once a proud and dominant program has taken a hit, both on and off the field.

While new head coach Luke Fickell has the Buckeyes playing better than some expected, 6-4 and 3-3 in the Big Ten so far will not be tolerated for long.

Not only that, but he inherently carries the Tressel scandal around with him wherever he goes, and there's nothing he can do about it. He's the coach that took over after Tressel, and that may forever be his legacy.

The Buckeyes need a clean break and a fresh start, and many people feel Meyer would be the perfect fit.

That being said, Meyer has come out and publicly denied any truth to the rumors that he and Ohio State were working on a deal to make him the new coach.

While that may be true for now, I don't expect it to remain that way for a long time.

Not only would Meyer be bringing in the two national championships under his belt, but he also has the respect of the college football world and that name-recognition that Ohio State desperately lacks now that Tressel is gone.

Ohio State needs a fresh start and a new image.

When all is said and done, I believe Meyer will be the perfect fit for the Buckeyes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him as their next head coach.
