Week 11 Start 'Em Sit 'Em: Christian Ponder and 3 Must-Start QBs

Luis BatlleNov 19, 2011

Christian Ponder has shown promise since taking the place of veteran quarterback Donovan McNabb. Week 11 against the Oakland Raiders should be his best game of the season so far.

Take note fantasy owners: Ponder will have a field day with an Oakland passing defense that has little to show for this season.

Week 11 of the 2011-2012 NFL season has brought a plethora of quarterback changes. Teams have struggled and there have been no shortage of injuries at the position.

Ponder took the place of McNabb earlier this season—proving he has the mechanics and patience to be a top-notch quarterback in this league in the future.

The following are predictions for Christian Ponder and two other must-start quarterbacks for Week 11.

No. 3 : Christian Ponder, Minnesota Vikings

Ponder and his Minnesota Vikings may arguably be the best 2-7 team to grace the league. For each of their first four losses, the Vikings had the lead, but let it all slip away. They were simply a team that couldn't get it done.

With Ponder now behind center, the Vikings are playing more like a complete team and are moving the ball with consistency downfield. Ponder has had the misfortune of playing three of his last four games on the road, with two of those against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

This Sunday, the Vikings take on an Oakland Raiders defense that continues to struggle against the pass. The Raiders are currently the No. 22 ranked pass defense in the league.

Expect Ponder to have a big day at home. In his last home game, he was able to to throw for two touchdowns and 219 yards. That 27-33 shootout with the Green Bay Packers ended up in a loss for the Vikings.

No. 2: Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions

Matthew Stafford is coming off a game to forget against a heating-up Chicago Bears defense. Stafford threw for 329 yards, one touchdown and a season-high four interceptions.

What fantasy owners must take note of is that the Bears had been playing top-notch defense as of late. They seemed to have found their groove. They were able to hold both Philadelphia and Tampa Bay to just 24 and 18 points in the last two games.

Stafford has been relatively consistent all season, and has scorched nearly every defense that has come his way. This season, Stafford has thrown for 2,508 yards, 20 touchdowns and just eight interceptions.

The four-interception performance in Week 10 is uncharacteristic for the Lions' QB.

The Carolina Panthers feature a mediocre pass defense that has not been tested much all season. In games against Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers and New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees, the Panthers were scorched. Each of the opposing QBs threw for over 300 yards; they combined for four touchdowns in their victories over Carolina.

No. 1: Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys

The Washington Redskins struggle, struggle and continue to struggle. That's the biggest reason why Cowboys QB Tony Romo will scorch the Skins in Week 11.

The Redskins have lost five straight games and have given up over 20 points to opponents in four of those games. The No. 9 passing defense in the league has not lived up to the hype, even playing some of the weaker QBs in the league.

In his last meeting with the Redskins in Week 2, Romo threw for over 250 yards and was able to take the ball downfield on the Redskins with ease.

Expect big numbers from Romo in Week 11; the Redskins can't seem to get it done on either end as of late.
