On The Rumour Mill: Tomko Out Of WWE Gives Christian Cage Food For Thought

A rumour is emerging that Tyson Tomko will be released for the company very soon after a huge falling out with the company. This is by no means true or accurate so don’t berate me if this is the case but here is the story doing the rounds

Tomko had just finished a dark match on RAW vs. Paul Burchill and soon after his character was been discussed. The WWE’s idea was to have Tomko come back fully covered with a mask as to hide his identity from the audience. Tomko disagreed entirely and said he felt a lot of hard work had gone into his character and he wasn’t going to do a gimmick to ruin it. Vince wasn’t best please with this and now Tomko will be released.

Working on the basis that this is true it actually means very little until you think about why Tomko was signed, to tempt Christian Cage into a return. As we all know Christian’s contract is up and he has been pondering whether to stay with TNA or go back to the WWE. Tomko was hired to please Christian as Tomko has been with him through a lot of his recent career starting a couple of years before he left the WWE in the first place. They reunited in TNA and he was hired to put them together once more in the WWE.

When you look at the story now a lot of it makes sense. The mask thing may have been used to create a storyline between the two. A mysterious man who keeps interfering on Christian’s behalf and as a face claims innocence while befriending the champ, until he wins the WWE title and unveils his evil plan to cheat his way to the title by befriending the champ then having Tomko screw him over on his behalf .

Ok, I’m never going to write storylines but something along those lines was thought up which is why they asked Tomko about this.

Tomko refusing would really wind up Vince because to Vince, Tomko is a pawn in a battle to resign Christian Cage.

The other thing is Vince isn’t Christian’s biggest fan but realizes it is a good move for ratings as he does have a lot of supporters. Also, the chance to put him with Edge is a world of great storylines at your doorstep.

So, you want to sign a guy but you aren’t overly desperate but you can see the business sense. You sign up his jobber friend as a way of convincing him to sign then this guy starts making demands like he is a star. That’s how Vince will think and it would surely have sent him wild.

So, all this has happened but what does Christian do now. He must think the WWE is the best option but now has had a quick reminder through the release of his friend that Vince can turn on you very quickly.

It serves as a reminder of how the WWE isn’t free of the problems he has faced in TNA. There he has fallen from top guy to mid-card and if Vince isn’t happy with Christian immediately he could be stuck in mid-card in the WWE as well. It isn’t impossible to force your way back to the top of the WWE as Chris Jericho showed, but it maybe easier in TNA. On the other hand the biggest reason for going back to the WWE is the money.

Whatever he chooses, this will serve as a reminder that he will have to work his socks off to be top guy again and if he was struggling to make a choice before, this will hardly have helped. Though one side may well be greener than the other, it still isn’t as green as he may of hoped.

UPDATE : Another reason he may be getting released is that Tomko has a muscle tear and looked heavy as well in his dark match mentioned. Apparently Vince was upset the big man was so out of shape and Tomko was trying to disguise the injury. Whatever the reason this rumor seems to have legs.
