NFL Week 11 Picks: Giants Will Put Eagles out of Their Misery

Michael DixonNov 19, 2011

I don't know what has happened with the Eagles this season. Maybe the short training camp really hurt the new veteran players. Maybe they came in too cocky and assumed that the division title would be easy. Maybe they just aren't as talented as was thought.

It doesn't really matter at this point. The only thing keeping them alive is that the Giants have a very difficult finishing schedule, so making up three games is a little more likely.

But at this point, even if the Giants collapse, there is absolutely no guarantee that the Eagles will even win three more games for the rest of the season, let alone three more than the Giants.

This is a must-win game for the Eagles. If they lose, they will be four games behind the Giants with six to play, and will be on the wrong end of the tiebreaker.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, that's exactly what's going to happen.

Let's start with this. Geoff Mosher of the Wilmington News Journal reported on Friday that Michael Vick will not play. According to Mosher, Vince Young will be making his first NFL start in a year.

In terms of their mobility, Young and Vick are fairly similar. The problem is that Young has nowhere near the arm of Vick, so Philadelphia's big play receivers will be neutralized.

And on that note, John Clayton shed some light on receiver Jeremy Maclin via Twitter.

This doesn't bode well for the Eagles. They are on the road against a 6-3 team that's already beaten them in Philadelphia this season.

They will be without their starting quarterback and a starting receiver. This is a team that at full health has been unable to put four good quarters together all season.

Now, can I see the Eagles coming out with one last stand, playing inspired football and beating the Giants?

Theoretically, I can. I certainly think the Eagles will have a few games where they show how talented they really are for the rest of the season.

But even if they win this one, I don't see them going anywhere. And again, I don't see them winning this one.

I would like the Giants over the Eagles if both teams were healthy. The Eagles aren't completely healthy. This game will bring an unofficial end to their season.
