WWE Survivor Series 2011: Divas Division Needs More Variety to Remain Relevant

Tim DanielsNov 18, 2011

Many people, myself included, finally had some hope for the WWE Divas Division when Beth Phoenix and her sister of doom Natalya ascended to the top. It was the perfect opportunity to showcase some real wrestling and perhaps even some storyline development.

Instead the WWE Universe has been treated to more lightning-quick matches and minor feuds between the same group of Divas that have ruled the roost for several months. Other than the addition of Alicia Fox and occasional appearances from the Bella twins with Zack Ryder, it's been more of the same.

Just like the fans become bored when John Cena and Randy Orton dominate their respective shows for an extended period, having Eve and Kelly Kelly switching places with Phoenix and Natalya has become stagnant.

It gives off the impression the WWE doesn’t even care about improving that aspect of its product. It's happy with a sub par status quo.

The biggest key to a revival would be more storylines. While they'll never give the Divas enough time for full blown feuds, they can do a lot better than what we witnessed on Monday Night RAW as Kelly Kelly scored a quick roll-up victory on Natalya. If you blinked, you missed it.

And that came during a three-hour show, which only rubs more salt in the wound.

Gail Kim became so fed up with the lack of respect for the Divas that she worked her way out of the company. It's tough to blame her. The division might not be as athletic as their male counterparts, but they've worked hard to reach this point and deserve a little more esteem within the company.

If there's time for Michael Cole to make a fool of himself or for Kevin Nash to work his way through a cringe-worthy promo, there's certainly enough time to showcase more divas action.

Sadly, it seems like the division is stuck in neutral and won't be going anywhere fast.
