Jets vs. Broncos: Why Denver Will Cover Spread on Thursday Night Football

Tim KeeneyNov 17, 2011

According to Bodog, the New York Jets are a seven-point favorite for tonight's game at the Denver Broncos.

That's right, the Jets, who are 1-3 on the road and have looked pretty bad on offense, are seven-point favorites on the road.

I get that this game is against a Denver Broncos team that is currently being led by Tim Tebow, who completes about four passes per game.

But still, it appears the Broncos have found a way around that little problem. Last week against the Chiefs, Denver slowed the game down by throwing the ball eight times and running it 55 times.

Yes—55-to-8. You didn't read that wrong.

You think they won't attempt to do that again against a New York Jets defense that has been better against the pass than the run this year.

The Jets are usually incredibly stout against the run, but they have been a little more susceptible this season. You can rest assured the Broncos will run, run, run and run some more. Denver should control the clock for a large majority of the game.

On the other side of the ball, the Broncos have actually been pretty good against the run. The Jets, of course, have struggled to run the ball. They could be forced to turn to Mark Sanchez and the pass game in this one.

And excuse me for being pessimistic, but I have a hard time trusting Mark Sanchez to blow a team out by himself.

So what you have in this game is a Broncos team that will run the ball, control the clock and turn this into a low-scoring game.

You also have a Jets team that has struggled to run the ball and has Mark Sanchez, who can't put up a ton of points.

The Broncos may not win this game, but there is no way they get blown out. If you're the betting type, go ahead and take Denver with confidence.
