NFL Week 11 Picks: Betting Trend You Need to Know for Each Team

Jeff GrantNov 17, 2011

Week 11 of the National Football League regular season is about to get underway with tonight's New York Jets and Denver Broncos' AFC matchup, but there's still 13 games left on the schedule once that game kicks off.

Betting trends are an important part of sports handicapping, especially if you can use them correctly in isolating certain money-making opportunities.

Let's take a look at 26 trends that you need to know before the rest of the action gets underway.

Carolina Panthers

1 of 26

The Carolina Panthers are currently seven-point road underdogs against the Detroit Lions Sunday, which should be an alarming spread for bettors.

Over the last two-plus seasons, Carolina is 1-5 against the spread when getting 3.5 to 7 points, which includes a 1-1 ATS mark this season.

Detroit Lions

2 of 26

The Detroit Lions have been one of the more successful teams against the spread the last two seasons, but are a dreadful 6-21-1 ATS in November.

Last week's 37-13 loss to the Chicago Bears as 2.5-point road underdogs certainly didn't help the cause.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

3 of 26

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers love traveling on the road against teams with a winning record at home, posting a dominating 11-1 ATS record in that situation.

Be careful in going overboard with this trend, as the one loss came in a 27-16 defeat to the New Orleans Saints just two weeks ago as nine-point road underdogs.

Green Bay Packers

4 of 26

The Green Bay Packers are the only undefeated team in the National Football League and oddsmakers continue to undervalue quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

In their last 16 opportunities as a home favorite, the Packers have tallied an impressive 12-3-1 ATS record.

Dallas Cowboys

5 of 26

The Dallas Cowboys shouldn't have scored so many points last week, registering a 44-7 victory over the Buffalo Bills as 4.5-point home favorites.

Bettors will find that "America's Team" is 0-8 ATS when playing on the road after scoring 28 or more points.

Washington Redskins

6 of 26

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is watching his team fall in the NFC East standings, but bettors shouldn't run away from the betting window Sunday.

The underdog is 22-6 ATS in the series featuring the Cowboys and Redskins.

Buffalo Bills

7 of 26

The Buffalo Bills aren't going to be an easy team to back after suffering consecutive losses, but the franchise is 10-0 ATS when coming off such a situation and playing a team it most recently defeated.

Buffalo tallied a 17-14 win over the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 19, 2010, causing a split in the AFC East series between the two squads.

Miami Dolphins

8 of 26

The Miami Dolphins are 7-29 ATS as a home favorite and were fortunate to be playing a banged-up Washington Redskins team last week at Sun Life Stadium.

It could be a different story in facing the Buffalo Bills this week, who comes in with a 9-4-1 ATS record in the last 14 meetings.

Jacksonville Jaguars

9 of 26

The Jacksonville Jaguars have gone 'under' the total in eight of nine games this season, which includes falling below the number in all five road games thus far.

Cleveland Browns

10 of 26

The Cleveland Browns aren't going to receive a lot of action due to their dismal offense and 1-8-2 ATS mark in home games.

Second-year quarterback Colt McCoy hasn't led the team to more than 17 points since a 27-19 Week 2 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Oakland Raiders

11 of 26

The Oakland Raiders usually leave it all out on the field against the San Diego Chargers, posting a 1-9 ATS record in games directly following the rivalry.

Bettors will be banking on the extra rest to combat that trend, as the Raiders played in last week's Thursday night prime-time event.

Minnesota Vikings

12 of 26

The Minnesota Vikings are looking ahead to 2012 after suffering a blowout road loss to the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.

Bettors should be interested in finding out that the Vikings are 0-6-1 ATS as a home underdog of three points or less.

Baltimore Ravens

13 of 26

The Baltimore Ravens dropped a disappointing 22-17 contest to the Seattle Seahawks last week as seven-point road favorites, but land in a great spot to bounce back.

Bettors will still jump at the opportunity of playing this squad, coming in with a 48-23-1 ATS record when laying points at home.

Cincinnati Bengals

14 of 26

The Cincinnati Bengals are still in the battle for AFC North supremacy despite dropping a 24-17 decision to the Pittsburgh Steelers as 3.5-point home underdogs last week.

Bettors will find that the Bengals have covered their last four games against the Ravens.

Seattle Seahawks

15 of 26

It's certainly not shocking that two of three wins for the Seattle Seahawks have come at home, as the franchise embraces the 12th man concept.

Bettors are always looking to fade the Seahawks when traveling away from the Pacific Northwest, coming in with a 7-20-1 ATS mark as a road underdog this week.

St. Louis Rams

16 of 26

The St. Louis Rams have won two of their last three games, but laying points at home is not a money-making situation for this franchise.

Bettors will find that the Rams are 1-9 ATS as home favorites against divisional opponents.

Arizona Cardinals

17 of 26

The Arizona Cardinals appear to be back on the mend and that's exactly what oddsmakers want you to think Sunday.

Bettors should run away from the betting window in a hurry, as the franchise is 2-8 ATS when coming off consecutive straight-up and against-the-spread victories.

San Francisco 49ers

18 of 26

The San Francisco 49ers come into this week's action as the only NFL team not to drop a game against the spread.

An impressive feat.

It's likely to continue with the 49ers being 5-0 ATS in their series with the Cardinals.

San Diego Chargers

19 of 26

The San Diego Chargers are still alive in the AFC West divisional race and are also the biggest underachievers in the National Football League.

Bettors shouldn't lose sight of this squad Sunday, coming in with a 22-8-3 ATS mark as an underdog.

Chicago Bears

20 of 26

The Chicago Bears are certainly on the rise and will be hosting a San Diego Chargers team that's looking to snap a long losing streak.

Bettors shouldn't get carried away this weekend, as Chicago is 1-11-1 ATS when coming off back-to-back victories when facing a wounded opponent that is off at least a pair of losses.

Tennessee Titans

21 of 26

The Tennessee Titans are six-point road underdogs against the Atlanta Falcons this weekend, which falls right into a money-making wheelhouse.

Bettors will find that the Titans are 14-5 ATS as a underdog of 3.5 to 10 points.

Atlanta Falcons

22 of 26

The Atlanta Falcons dropped a disappointing 26-23 contest as one-point home favorites last week against the New Orleans Saints, but there's certainly no panic in returning to the Georgia Dome Sunday.

Falcons head coach Mike Smith is 15-3 ATS when coming off a defeat.

I'm under the impression that his team will respond to the criticism he's taken this week for going for it on fourth down and inches last week.

Philadelphia Eagles

23 of 26

The Philadelphia Eagles' ship seems to be sinking, and nothing can keep them afloat like facing the New York Giants for bettors.

In the last 14 meetings between these NFC East divisional rivals, the underdog has walked away with the cash 12 times.

New York Giants

24 of 26

The New York Giants are 4.5-point home favorites against the Philadelphia Eagles, but would probably like to be the one receiving points in this matchup.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning has failed to grab the cash in his last four home games against the Eagles.

Kansas City Chiefs

25 of 26

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without starting quarterback Matt Cassel when traveling to face the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football, but that's not the biggest worry for bettors.

In the franchise's last 12 games following a divisional home game, Kansas City has failed to cover the spread in 10 of those contests.

New England Patriots

26 of 26

The New England Patriots will likely lack motivation in playing the Kansas City Chiefs after blowing out the New York Jets last week to take control of the AFC East division.

Bettors will have a tough time laying the big number due to the Patriots being 3-15 ATS as a favorite of 10.5 or more points.
