Citadel vs. South Carolina: Latest Spread Info, BCS Impact and Predictions

Kyle VassaloNov 17, 2011

At first glance, it looks like Citadel is going to get massacred by South Carolina. Upon further examination, well...it is still obvious that Citadel has absolutely no shot against South Carolina.

The question is not whether or not there will be carnage, but rather how horrific it will be. We're talking about a Citadel team who just lost to Samford at home last week going on the road and taking on No. 12 South Carolina.

People wonder whether or not South Carolina can win without Marcus Lattimore. This week, it won't be an issue.

Key Storyline:
Is South Carolina a contender in the SEC East?

The Gamecocks aren't going to answer that question in this game, but when Georgia and South Carolina both go into their last game of the season with a spot in the SEC Championship up for grabs, this will be a hot topic for discussion.

Georgia has to do away with Georgia Tech next week, and that is a closer matchup than advertised.

BCS Implications

South Carolina is currently the best two-loss team in the nation. Even though they are basically idle this week, they have a shot at cracking the top 10 this week and if they are able to close out this season, a decent bowl game is still well within their grasp. Lose, and they are going to be on the wrong end of the worst upset of the season.

Citadel Player To Watch:
RB, Darien Robinson

Darien Robinson can be a difference maker when he gets it going. He got 22 carries last week and will undoubtedly be featured heavily this week. He's got to explode for far more than the 84 yards he racked up last week.

South Carolina Player To Watch:
QB Connor Shaw

Connor Shaw has been up, concussed, down, brilliant and sporadic, all within the same game at times. He's filled the Stephen Garcia void capably, but this game is about putting up monster numbers that really build his confidence.

Key Matchup:
South Carolina's offense vs. Citadel's defense

Citadel's defense doesn't have the edge, but they've been able to hold opponents to less than 20 seven times this season. Is it a stretch to assume they can do the same to South Carolina? You better believe it.

Prediction:
South Carolina 55, Citadel 7
