Why the WWE Needs CM Punk vs. Mark Henry to Happen Again

Matthew HemphillNov 17, 2011

CM Punk is facing Alberto Del Rio this Sunday for the WWE title.  There are multiple ways this fight could end, but no matter what the outcome of the match, Punk should face Henry next.

Of course if Punk wins the title, that is not going to happen unless Henry loses his.  Considering the way the WWE has been building up Henry, that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

If Punk wins the WWE title, this match also won't happen because they would both be wearing belts and be the champion.  There is just no way that the WWE would allow there two champions to face each other and find out who the best in the world is.  No matter if fans want to see it or not, the WWE "needs" two champs for both of their shows, and so neither champ would meet in the ring.

However, if one man wins his title match and the other one loses his, there should be a rematch.  Not just because it is something different for each man, but because it would be the best thing for their characters.

It actually wouldn't be the second time these men have squared off.  They actually faced each other in the ECW a few years before, but that was with different personas and at a different time.

Now Mark Henry is an unstoppable monster who seems to be tearing through competition.  Someone who takes anything as an imagined slight and real insults as a reason for breaking someone.

CM Punk is being built as a loudmouth who speaks his mind regardless of the consequences.

Just imagining the two facing off gives a certain thrill that other matchups lack.

And the reason why is simple.

Henry gives off the energy of a man who could crush Punk and beat him senseless without even trying.  A monster, who unlike a bully, isn't afraid of a man who won't back down.

Henry would be a monster who would try to crush Punk for anything said against him and for any reason.

And Punk would back up his words with an attitude that showed he was as tough as nails.  Punk can talk, but a match with Henry would show that Punk is willing to stand by his words and not surrender.  It is the last part missing from Punk's character.

The ability to show that he will live and die by his words is what most people expect from Punk, but this is the match that would prove it.  He could be battered and beaten, but won't give up.  It will show that even though Punk may not be the biggest threat in the ring, if he says he is going to win, then he will find a way.

And it means that if he says he is the best in the world, he will stand by it and fight to the death to prove it.

And for Henry's part, it would make him seem like a remorseless monster who would be unmoved by his opponent's toughness and use it to find new ways to punish him.

There is a quote in Proverbs that answers why this fight needs to happen again best.

"As iron sharpens iron so one person sharpens another."

And in the same way Henry and Punk could sharpen each other.
